So what ideas have you come up with to help promote the sport and attract more spectators to the track.

I agree MC, it's easy to slag but difficult to get bums out of seats and down to the track. here's a couple of my ideas.

Free entry (pardon the slight 'gay' reference there) or maybe a gold coin donation.
Free pint upon entry (soft drink or beer) upon proof of entry
Free $5 bet with a bookie upon proof of entry
Cheap(er) drinks
Cheap(er) and edible food
Every person who enters the track has a chance to win (insert something of value - Nintendo Wii, mountain bike, gym membership) but you have to be there to win.

OBVIOUS problem with this is that there are paid up members who will bark that they don't get these benefits, but geez we need to attract people back to the track.

Some good points here by the Gadj
On the other side of the world we have this in Ireland this weekend, if u r a member of the Irish TAB

FAIRYHOUSE WINTER FESTIVAL
Pay only 10 euro admission
Recieve 3 euro free tote betting voucher
Recieve voucher for tea or coffee

Not sure what the admission is for the general public, obviouly MORE than the 10 euro[about $13 aud] admission fee
However the local Tote is making it possible for members to get about half the admission back in vouchers

No need to lock up the kids I would have thought? #-o

What decent parent would take their kids to a gay & lesbian themed day anywhere. I ask you that? What a great idea to put in their head and for them to see these great people.

Great example Mal about Woodside. Its fine.....only if you don't live there  .

Why wouldn't you take kids if you had them??

Its not like the gay and lesbians will be all over each other and taking off their clothes. Maybe some hand holding but that happens at most events you would go as a family. :?

I'm certainly not gay and being gay doesn't interest me, but I know people who are, and I am more than happy to talk to them and treat them like anyone else.

I think that you are perhaps uncomfortable with your own sexuality and that may very well be the real issue here!

How do you explain to year child aged between 5 and 10 years old the reason why 2 women are groping each other if this was the case on Saturday
And this would be precisely the reason why I would not take a child at that age to this meeting
These children are too immature to learn about the birds and the Queen bees

The hole idea is to attract crowds to the races
There would be a core of people who would not take thie youngr kids on the day [including me]
So the G + L day is flawed to extent for a family wishing to roll up on the day

Now imagine this, families do roll up and know nothing about the theme day
They could be offended, and begrudingly never ever go back to this racecourse again

Butt, let me re-iterate I would go individually, and not have a problem with being there

Well said, no members, no families... but a heap of G & L. It wont work, infact it will have an adverse effect.

"Gays & Lesbians" and "families" are apparently mutually exclusive in you guys eyes. Interesting.

Can't see why this has to be so controversial to be honest. If they roll up more than 1 week - good for the SAJC. If they don't, then they haven't lost anything in trying - except the "moral high ground homophobs" of course.

Question to you both - would you know if you were standing next to a gay or lesbian person on a "normal" Saturday?
