Dodgy and Co,

None of you like to hear the truth but what I have said previously is getting more and more proven each day. First and foremost, I originally posted because I did not want to see people (who seem like genuine good guys) going broke on a bet type that forces you to sprinkle your outlay for the day on a jockey's individual rides, that some of you before placing a bet realise have no hope of finishing top 3. The rest of you live in hope that it could be that horse's lucky day and they could sneak a few points at huge odds - but have any of you thought of a bookmaker point of view on this type of scenario .

The Jockeys that you are backing may some have some genuine winning chances - so why not back them individually?? For example when a great rider like H Bowman in that recent night meeting in Sydney had a double you all loaded up on him for the JC and was pipped by C Brown in the last race. You will NEVER (unless your are backing a mistake) get turned away from a JC challenge bet - but try consistently backing a few winners with some of the corporate bookies .

I remember a few years ago when I spoke to Craig Williams when he came to Adelaide, when the preview was on for Morphettville I said to him "hey Craig your favourite to win the Jockey Challenge today do you guys follow it at all", he looked at me blankly and asked me what I was talking about. So if your rider needed to run 2nd or better in the last race he would have NFI that this is the case and would not be aware that he needs to be doing everything possible to get into first or second.

Look at yesterday for example there was a challenge on the second Victorian meeting FFS surely this has to be a sign that they would not bother if A - they could guarantee a profit and B - they knew mugs punters would bet on this crap.

Please have some thought for the bookmakers that are trying to get as many JC's markets up as possible when having your next bet - I don't like seeing people go broke on a horrible bet types like this one.

Regards,

DC

I never really bet big in the JC, compared to other sports/racing, its more just a bit of fun. I can have a small bet, and be interested in all the races for that day rather than betting on a number of races.

I also think that the prices of the supposed odds on favourites give you a small edge to find something to beat them, since a jockey should never been odds on to win a day of racing.

Will be interested in Symons price in Melbourne today. Possibly AOJ/Cassidy in Sydney. :D

I love the way you always pop up DC when everyone has had a bad day, but never, EVER make comment when there are winners.... Like most guys got on Maskiell at $6-$7.50 on Monday and we didn't hear boo..... So what was invested yesterday would nowhere near be a loss over the two days....

I get what you are saying though but look at it this way. Before Xmas when Libby Hopwood won the JC on Friday night in Adelaide. I was going to back one of her rides straight out – I had spoken to the trainer and was very keen on it winning. Libby was already on either 3 or 4 points for the JC and was still being offered at $8 by Centrebet. I knew if Libby rode the winner she would win the JC, so instead of backing her mount I hammered her to win the JC at $8. History shows that the horse I was going to back didn’t even run a place, however Libby rode a $13 winner next race and another into second later on to win the JC. I went from a potential $200 loss to suddenly pocketing $2,000…..

And Johno - great reply!! =))

Betting in Soccer making you sweet FA????
Not really a correct Comparison, Its like betting on Paul Gatt to win the JC at $1.50 NO VALUE

All a bit of fun I would've thought. I certainly ain't pinning my hopes of putting dinner on the table with the Jockey Challenge, just good way to flutter a few bucks.

In saying that I'm a few hundred up on my JC career thanks to some great tips from the lads :D

hell of alot more interesting than betting on the big powerhouse soccer leagues in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan ;)

ANYWAYSSSSS any markets up yet?
