Still a week for something to change the thought, but Im still finding it hard to go past Shocking.

Missed most of the races today (from what I saw on the news tonight, Zipping looked to finish out the Plate well), was Precedence's run impressive?

Precedence won fairly well but was under vigorous riding over the last 200m. Not entirely sure he will get the 3200m. REALLY not convinced So You Think will either, for that matter, if he ran. Brilliant 2040m. Another 1160m is a big ask. Not sure, at his stage of career and being an entire, that he can switch off and relax enough for that extra distance, and THEN find the necessary sprint down a long Flemington straight. Would really be prepared to risk him.

I think the opposite CK. So You Think will get the 3200m easy, and will blow them away if they run him. Winning a Melbourne Cup is not going to increase his stud value anymore though, and connections wont risk a run in the Cup if he is not completely 100%.

Zipping looks some value in early Cup markets, his run home was good in Plate.

SYT had had enough at the end of 2040m and he was under the persuader.

SHOOT OUT is a massive chance in the Mlb Cup... Massive, massive chance.

Zipping's had two tries at the Melb Cup and just doens't get the 3200m.
He might be going better this time, and a year older but I doubt he'll run the 3200m.

My top 4 - Shoot out, Shocking, Americain, Profiund Beauty.

Ahhh, yes, G, but at least I put my thoughts on the line, and don't wait until after the event before putting things up, unlike some people.

By the way, Bart said last night that he was not looking toward a Cup start for the horse this year, unless he runs in the Mackinnon and is very impressive in doing so.

Emirates Melbourne Cup Field Narrows
25 Oct 2010

With the winner of the G1 Longines Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) and G3 The Lexus Stakes (2500m), exempt from the Melbourne Cup ballot, the UK stayer’s fate will be in the hands of others.

If the winner of either race is ranked 25th – 47th then they will jump ahead of Bauer, thus leaving the Luca Cumani stable to sweat on withdrawals prior to the final declarations
deadline at 5pm on Saturday.

Unlike a number of their rivals, Bauer and the Godolphin-owned pair Holberg (31st) and Eastern Aria (33rd) are unable to further their claims for a start this weekend as their
post-arrival quarantine period does not conclude until Cup Eve.

The trio are in training at the Werribee International Horse Centre alongside seven internationals that are guaranteed a start in the race.

They are Campanologist (6th), Profound Beauty (9th), Mr Medici (10th), Illustrious Blue (12th), Tokai Trick (13th), Americain (14th) and Manighar (21st).

The key runners outside the top 24 at present are Precedence (26th), Herculian Prince (28th), Alcopop (29th), Linton (30th), Drunken Sailor (32nd) and Moudre (38th), all of whom are nominated for The Lexus on Saturday.

A total of 22 Melbourne Cup third acceptors are nominated for The Lexus meaning the race to gain a start in that $250,000 qualifier is just as fierce as the one for the 150th Melbourne Cup itself.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

I agree with CK, SYT will not run the 3200m IMO. Getting more and more confident about Shocking and Manighar every day.

It would be absolutely astonishing if SYT won the Cup.

An early 4yo with a decent weight on his back, tackling two miles for the first time in his career.

At the end of 2040m in the Cox Plate, I thought it looked like SYT had had enough.

Brings a lot of value to punters who think he can't win.

But if Bart says he can win it, I wouldn't be surprised if he did - but it would be an incredible feat.

A few points FWIW. I'm going triple m each way, manighar, mr medici and monaco consul. Got on them all three weeks ago, medici at 81s from memory. I also backed dariana but not so keen now. I believe SYT and Zipping to not place! I really think if Shocking gets a run, even 12 wide around the home turn, he is hard to beat, i just dont like short odds for the MC!
