If I was concerned about this Race-Day then i would also be disgusted in the Irish Race Day and other Race-Days that are marketed towards certain demographics of society

Saturdays Gay and Lesbian race meeting this Saturdays Pink Diamond Day

Staff at the SAJC have copped it already, being abused
Trackside diners have cancelled bookings in protest
Complaints have been made via Email from members
One person abused staff and was alledgedly quoted as saying ""We shouldnt be supporting 'poofters' and things like this - that its not proper
An email sent, alledgedly suggests to promote the appearance of Apache Cat and not a bunch of ''pushers and others dressed in pink.""

SUMMARY
This is a courageous decision by the SACA , full marks for trying something different to get people thru the turnstyles
Indeed they may get a large crowd this weekend, and a short term boost to the club
But the long term ramifications ?
Will regular patrons boycott this meeting, and perhaps future meetings ?
Will this meeting be offputting for non gay/lesbians who attend this meeting
Whatever happens, this promises to be one of the most bizzare race meetings ever held on a SA racecourse meeting

As for me, it would not bother me if I was in attendance on the day
IT never bothered me in the late 70s going to the Buckingham Arms disco either.

I love how these people want to be treated as equal and then they organise events such as these. I'm sure a Heterosexual Race Meeting at Morphatville will cop a fair bit of criticism!

me either. I agree totally and so do most of the older members at the SAJC that I have spoken to. The marketing person responsible for this will be shown the door. You can mark my words!

Can't be bothered commenting on the Gay + Lesbian issue except to say it don't bother me, if it gets publicity or whatever it's done its job.

Obviously the main issue here is crowds at the races...

I am a massive horse racing fan BUT I also play cricket.
There is nothing I would enjoy more than to go to more race day meetings, in fact with footy and cricket I barely get to any in a year.
Why do we not have more Sunday and Friday Night meetings? I know if they were held on these days/nights I would attend 10+ throughout the year and spend my hard earned. I always watch Cantebury and MV night races and think wow, if that was in Adelaide tonight I would love to be there.

I'm assuming betting turnover, etc, etc are the reasons but Saturday's are really not suitable for alot of people.

they don't have friday night racing because they haven't got sufficient lights for it ;) , heck the lights they have for trackwork wouldn't light up an 'outhouse' ;)
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I suppose that, instead of making some extra dollars for the day and possibly gaining a number of longer term fans and members through the day, it would be preferable to simply alienate a percentage of the community that have every right to attend a day like this without fears of a backlash, prejudice and attitudes that may have been considered acceptable many years ago but not today.

With attendances falling through the floor on race day, prizemoney levels causing trainers and owners to desert local racing, and the product really needing long term participants for the next 20+ years, I really wouldn't have thought that a day like this should cause the level of angst that it seems to be for a percentage of the community. For anyone to even contemplate sacking someone, or calling for the sacking of someone, that is trying to think outside the square and raise some revenue for the club, is mind boggling.

Maybe people with those attitudes can have a look around a near deserted course on race day and contemplate why this state can now sustain only one metropolitan race course. Then again, I'm sure outdated garbage like that will pay the bills in the long term.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...
