Stathi is supremely confident for the Melbourne Cup, and I agree - I think the wet track of the Caulfield Cup might tax a few of the rival horses.

John Wallace said Shoot Out WILL run first three in the Cox Plate.

Make of it what you will, but I agree.

Who knows what they will do. I'm sure Stathi would've wanted them to find a new rider and get him home.
Unbelievable.

Shoot Out to win the Cox Plate now. Amazing how many times someone has passed away then the next runner win. Bruce McLachlans first horse won after he passed away and I remember a race in Queensland where the trainers first runner after he died was about 90/1 and absolutely hopeless on a bog track and came from nowhere on the turn and came down the outside fence to win. It was like he was being pushed through the mud.

Americain now at $11 after carrying the highest weight for a Geelong Cup winner (58kg) in 44 years.

The Cumani galloper Drunken Sailor's spring campaign may already be over, after copping a heavy check before the turn, and returning to scale with a bleeding front hoof - the same injury that kept him out of last week's Caulfield Cup.

Americain had the softest run of the race and still only just hung on, will finish nowhere in the cup

Couldn't disagree more Dutchy.
Big weight, and IMO wasn't a bad Geelong Cup field.

- Only found clear room in the final 100m.
- First run in Australia, can only improve.
- Will drop considerably in weight.
- Wasn't knocked around in the run, like you said has it VERY easy.

havent seen replay but first impressions was winner did a good job to sprint when it did get out with that weight. Chances are it wont get a penalty for the cup so the drop in weight will suit it ideally

I am sure it will get a penalty, probably just not a large one.

FWIW the rails and the inside barrier had considerable bias yesterday. Think Americain was a good run but I think the price it has come into is crazy and wouldn't have it in the top 5 for the cup just yet.

MT MT MT MT MT!!

0.5kg penalty and now he can't win the Cup?
He needed that penalty jsut to ensure he got a run.

Drops plenty from his Geelong Cup run and will only improve for his second run on our shores.

I'm all over him.

Agree to some extent.
I give them both big chances.

Americain beat Manighar with 1kg less last encounter.
But.... debatable who had the better run in that race.

Obviously amazing run by SYT, did it with ease, so so good to watch BUT any queries at how it was being run down and its chances of running the 3200 at the cup?? Unproven at the distance obviously, yet $4 fave

Thought Zippings run was impressive, and its run in the Turnbull. Seems good value at $26. Is it qualified?
