SH

The Lions donned the Fitzroy guernsey to honour a major club "Kings of the Pride" reunion function held that same night in Melbourne.

This is according to the Lions website

That's correct. And it was a fantastic night as well.

Hopefully we see the Fitzroy jumper at least a couple of times in Melbourne each year.

Yes, I think maintaining the link with the Fitzroy tradition like that is a good idea.

I would oppose that. The Brisbane Lions guernsey needs to be worn on a regular basis. However given that Brisbane Lions represents two former AFL clubs, I don't see why both the Fitzroy jumper and the Bears "V jumper" couldn't be worn as clash jumpers where needed and also for special events such as heritage Rounds or against a traditional rival such as Collingwood once a year.

For example the Brisbane Bears 'V jumper' might be worn when the Lions play West Coast (the Bears and West Coast entered the competition in 1987) and perhaps against Adelaide to avoid a clash, while the Fitzroy jumper would be worn against Essendon and Melbourne, (clubs that we are deemed to have a clash with) and perhaps against Fitzroy's traditional rival Collingwood when played in Melbourne. On the other 17 occasions the regular Brisbane Lions guernsey could be worn.

If we all remember that BB jumper colour scheme was a bastardisation of the original maroon and gold in 1987. What is attached above was the gold and CERISE effort c.1990-1991 just before the "gold vee" design (the blander one IMO).

Personally, the original (pre-cerise) and the gold Eagles jumper are fine and an interesting insight into the styles of the times - wear the Fitzroy jumper once in Melbourne, the original Bears once in Brisbane or if they play North Melbourne at Carrara and the current design for the other 20 home and away games ... sounds fair if the old Bears, old Lions and current club are all represented in a season.

The Fitzroy guernsey has always been one my favourites.

Any excuse to wear it is a good one...
