*Port's Brogan to plead guilty to assault*

Port Adelaide footballer Dean Brogan is to plead guilty to assaulting a doctor. The ruckman was excused from attending Adelaide Magistrates Court today. He faced two charges for allegedly assaulting oral surgeon Dr Zahl Khouri at a park at Millswood in Adelaide in October 2005, after the pair's dogs had started fighting.

Brogan's lawyer Mark Griffin has told the court his client will plead guilty to the most serious of the charges - assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The other charge will be dismissed. Brogan, 28, had been due to face a two-day trial next week but will now appear next Friday to formally enter his plea and for sentencing submissions.

In March, Brogan was fined $750 for punching a Crows supporter at Adelaide Airport.

Fined $750??? WTF should have been rewarded $750 for hitting a loud mouth... Nah seriously he seems to have some anger management issues...

Dean Brogan is a TOOL. the guy has no idea on how to treat people if someone called me something i didn't like i would tell them to go and get F*CKED.

Surprised that he is pleading guilty, you would think that a conviction would likely lead to a case in the Civil court?

What punishment (if any) did Port Adelaide hand out for these infractions?

Where has the AFL been on this - have they commented?

It seems that while there's been plenty of media interest in this, it hasn't gained quite the same attention as other events of recent times. Brogan's lucky in that respect.

Now the Doctor involved in this incident with Dean Brogan is alleging that he received threats from a Bikie gang. He alleges that the Bike Gang member rang him and threatened to have his 2 dogs killed if he went ahead and pressed charges against Brogan.

Sgt Wojtask said witness David Lovell, who is now a District Court judge, tried to separate the men who were aggressive and insulting each other.

Judge Lovell reported that both men were arguing about who should have their dogs on a lead.

Sgt Wojtask said Brogan and Dr Khouri separated but then Brogan "moved towards the victim and punched him with his right fist to the left forehead causing a cut".

Both men then began swinging punches and grappling for about 20 seconds before Brogan left the area with his dog.

The court heard Dr Khouri received up to six stitches to the cut on his forehead and also suffered a fractured finger.

Brogan's lawyer, Mark Griffin, QC, said Brogan regretted punching Dr Khouri but said he had been provoked.

"Dr Khouri was extremely provocative in relation to his behaviour and he needled and egged Mr Brogan to the point Mr Brogan stepped over the line and threw the punch and caused the injury," Mr Griffin said.

"Neither man can be proud of their behaviour that afternoon."

Mr Griffin quoted Judge Lovell saying that the Dalmatian owner "would not stop needling" the doberman owner, calling him a "child" and a "12-year-old".

He said Dr Khouri also commented on Brogan's clothes and his car and asked him if he was "lost" and told him to "piss off".

"Dr Khouri was arrogant and in his comments to Mr Brogan elitist and tried to demean Mr Brogan thinking no doubt Mr Brogan was a nobody," Mr Griffin said.

Think he has been Fined $1000.

Im very sympathetic of Brogan in both incidents.
The general community shouldn't have the right to go around and abuse AFL footballers.
If they do they deserve a hit in the head IMHO.
They should be thanking Broge's for learning a lesson in life.

Ive done some stupid things in my life (as can be seen on the General Discussion Board) but I wouldn't even consider going up to an AFL footballer for no other reason than to abuse them, its pathetic and these people are parasites IMHO.

I actually almost walked into Brogan one day and was suprised that he wasn't that solid at all, he looked like a good hip and shoulder from me would send him through a wall. I doubt that would happen if I tried though!

I agree with you Wedgie, and whilst from the info above the Doctor may not have even known who Brogan was, it doesn't really matter if the allegations about the Doctors behaviour are correct ... If you pipe up in the hope that someone will take exception to it, don't come crying when it bites you on the ass ... Pet hate (pardon the pun) of mine when people feel they can abuse others and bitch and moan when they get whats coming to them.

Yeah exactly, I should have added to that about the Doc.

Brogan is a thug and a repeat offender.

It doesn't matter what anyone says or implies, swinging the first punch is crossing the line. There is NO acceptable excuse - especially so when you are so much bigger than the other guy.

It is a cop out to say he said something insulting so I had to hit him. It's the sort of excuse wife-beaters use too. It is also an admission of being so thick you can't solve anything except by bullying and belting people, or that you are so much a thug it is your preferred method.

The Carr thing looks very speculative, with very little substance to base the idea of returning to the Power on.
He may be negotiating with another team, or just putting on the pressure for a better deal where he is, as Fevola did recently.

Brogan is a thug and yes no-one has the right to verbally abuse someone but still there is no need to resort to violance. If he hits and kills the man for saying something like your a sh*t footballer does that guy really deserve to die for an off the cuff comment. Look at Sam Davis and David Hookes it doesnt take much to damage the human body. cmon Brogs pull your head in or take up boxing id like to see you go toe to toe with Bazza
