Port/Roos - time for another Bitch slap?

Postby Dutchy » Sat Apr 07, 2007 10:12 am

Well its on tomorrow and as Port Power are our bitches (13-3   ) and everyone in teal is still going on about last week (its 1 week FFS)...could another SHinboner upset be on the cards?

For the Roos VFL Liston winner last year Aaron Edwards is in, so very much looking forward to seeing him play and provide a target up forward...unfortuantely its at the expense of Matty Campbell, but a forward had to miss for Edwards to be in.

ANy other thoughts?

Yep. The Power are going North Melbourne Kangaroo hunting tomorrow.

Seriously, I will be shocked if we lose.

The Kangas record over the Power is one of those interesting stats largely driven by the fact that in Port's early days (1997-2001), the Kanagaroos were one of the power teams in the comp (altho even last year the Kangas upset Port at home). The result in the 2005 finals series (Port by plenty in Melbourne) should have buried some of the history. However, Chad Cornes did acknowledge on radio during the week that the Kangas do match up well on them due to their high-quality tagging crew.

Port still have a young side which will be a bit up and down this year so they shouldn't assume tomorrow will be an automatic win even tho I have tipped Port myself.

Weve only ever played the Roos 5 times at Footy Park, compared to 13 times away. Of the Roos first 9 wins in a row, only 2 of those matches were played in Adelaide.

The W/L record may be lopsided, but so has the scheduling.

bit of straw clutching there, if you want to analyse that we are still 3-2 at games at AAMI, plus we have a great record at AAMI also against the Crows so we would have loved more here....plus there have only been 7 true "Home" games at our home ground...teh 92 point thumping in your preiership years stands out like a sore thumb

Like with the stats v Port Adelaide, the Kangaroos earned 5 of their 6 wins in the period 1996-2000 when they were arguably the best team in the comp. They have only won at AAMI once since the year 2000, they have lost the last 3 and lost 4 of the last 5.

The Kangaroos accumulated some great stats in their power years, they were arguably the team of the 90s. But things are evening out in recent years and referencing back to a past era is becoming less and less relevant as time goes on.

I am not a Power supporter so can't believe I am defending them like this - but the Power's big loss in the 2004 home and away season pales, I think, against the 87 point loss inflicted on the Kangaroos in the 2005 finals series.

still a great record and while I havent got the stats in front of me I believe the best Non SA team record at the ground....I know what your saying about when we were strong BUT Port were pretty good in recent years and Crows werent bad either in the late 90's, also look at the close losses in 4 of the games against the corws since 2001..I know Ive enjoyed many a win at the ground...and hope to tomorrow, but dont expect to

Agreed, very moving, I have to find that game on DVD, I'll watch it in an even more awe like way after reading that book.
Probably one of the few AFL games Ive watched in full in the last 10 years.

I saw Jason speak at a work function 2 years ago ... he was articulate, inspiring and great to listen to. He came across as a brave and humble guy and earned everyone's respect (if he needed to do that anyway - prob not). He was even happy to talk footy with a mug like me - spoke openly about the Wayne Carey v Glen Archer situation at the time.
