Ask Liam Jones, Jed Anderson and Jack Darling about that.
There was none of the doctor patient confidentiality when it came to your covid vaccination status. The AFL was quite happy to declare the players medical history back then

Did they?

Of course they did by saying you had to be vaccinated to continue playing the game.

The only reason I have multis on each game is so I actually have an interest. If I didn't have a bet on every game, I feel I would stop watching footy. It has seriously gone to shit. My old man absolutely despises footy now and I know quite a few others who feel the same.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Eliminate a majority of the coaching staff and I guarantee the product will be better. Wind the rules back to 1990 while we're at it (perhaps with the exception of relative leniency re striking blokes' heads).

Probably the upshot of involving girls and women more. They out number us old traditional men who are being driven away from the game.

Bang on!!

The game isn’t designed to attract 35-60 year old males who want to eat a pie and drink beer at the footy any more

It’s about getting entire families to games.

Most kids I know are just as passionate about the current product as I was at their age.

I still enjoy watching football but the umpiring has gone to shit. It's all about the aesthetics of the game rather than actually following the rules. Drop back to three umps and piss off the goal review system for the quick win. I get that you can't clobber blokes Choppy style but the umpiring is just totally ******. The rest of the game is actually in good shape in comparision to when Richmond Union ruled the roost. I thought last year there was a lot of good footy to watch and ditto the year before. You are just a bunch of grumpy old bastards. ;)

That comment gets said all the time, unfortunately it can't be done. The rules back then were way too easy to manipulate.

We can wax lyrical about the good old days of footy as much as we like, it isn’t going back to that and will continue to evolve.

The new generation of fans doesn’t have the old version to reflect upon and so they love the version that they see.

The reality is, most of us on here are no longer the target audience.

I don't care what anyone says, but today's game is faster, more skilled, stronger bodies, bigger hits and harder hits than any time of our games history. Yeah the rule changes suck, but a side from today, would smash every decade that proceeded it

Agreed, the game will continue to evolve and look different.

Teams of a more modern era would almost always beat teams of the past.

I struggle to watch any games anymore, except for our games but that is a different struggle

I understand that I get a minute in to our games and it’s #### it and turn it over

There was a time recently where I would watch almost every game or at least have it on the wireless with an echo but not anymore

Bad reception area, dodgy aerial or cheap-ass unit?

3 things to improve the game:
1) Umpire the holding the ball/incorrect disposal rule properly - if a player takes possession and then doesn't dispose of it with a kick or handball, ping him. I'd rather see more frees than more ball ups.
2) Reduce interchanges
3) Reduce season to 18 games - play each team once + a rivalry

Stop the shut down tactics at the end of a game with teams playing for stoppages with the ruck dropping the ball straight down for all his own players to just dive on top of it. Effectively just tackling their own players so the ball can’t get out.

I'd love to somehow get rid of the congestion. Hate seeing wide angle shots of 36 players all in 1 quarter of the ground at stoppages.
Maybe have something similar to the 6,6,6 rule at every stoppage
