Mid-season trade window

I think the AFL should introduce a mid-season trade period at the beginning of June to give teams the ability to tweak or bolster their team by trading players with other clubs.
The way it is now, if a team is in a rut and has a deficiency with certain personnel they're stuffed for the rest of the year. With a trade window there would be a chance for clubs to make changes and get some impetus for the rest of the season.
Likewise, there are disaffected players who are wanting out of a side but they have to hang around under sufferance until season's end.
Why not give the player and the clubs a means of striking a deal while the season is still alive?

With intellectual property, game plans, structures all so closely guarded it will never happen.
Does it need to? IMO, no. Port are ravaged at the moment and I'm not interested in someone else's scraps.
For instance, who would be in on trades right now? Any of the top 8? I don't think so, they've got some depth and they want to keep it.
Who would be looking for people to bring in? Richmond and Port, what have they got to offer other clubs? Not much right now.

Is it really needed? No
Is it a chance to happen? Yes - refer point about if really needed
AFL loves to try and copy American sports, and even more they love stuffing around with things that aren't needed.. give it time I'm sure it'll be raised.

I dont mind the idea. Instead three bye rounds, you could have a single bye round and have a week long trade period.
There would be quite a few players, particularly rookie listed players, that might be willing to move.
Maybe using North as an example because they are top, i can see a few of their players not getting a look in, and may be on the verge of being delisted, wanting to show themselves.
Players like Daniel Currie last year, and Aaron Black and Majak Daw this year, would potentially fit in at other AFL clubs given the chance - they would all make Port Adelaide's or Richmond's team right now imo.
I guess the rookie list is supposed to cater for those circumstances where you get long term injuries.
The intellectual property issues are neither here nor there imo. Players and more importantly coaches move a lot at the end of the season anyway.
I dont hate the idea
SANFL fans will have a go at me for this, but I think another option would be to sign someone from the lower leagues mid season if there are gaps. There would be quite a few mature age types running around that would add to an afl team if they had a glaring hole because of injuries.

Teams may not use it and that's their prerogative but it'd be good to have it there just in case.
