Ablett out "indefinitely" to rest injured shoulder.

“When assessing Gary’s shoulder on Monday, it was apparent that his range of movement had been restricted and as a result we have made the decision that he will miss Sunday’s game against Geelong,” Ashcroft told the club’s website.

“What we do know is that he strengthened his shoulder considerably in the lead up to Round 1. After a couple of games, where his shoulder has been tested in match conditions, Gary’s shoulder has been stirred up, effecting his movement and strength.

At the coast, There was something more annoying than the old panthers roar down at Noarlunga, After every Suns goal there was a trumpet sound and then some guy reminding the small number of Suns fans to wave their flags and to stick with their team. Can we also get rid of Kiss Cam as well, this isn't Basketball.

Did like watching a reserve game before the mains

Pretty sad that this gets a mention on the news for a lad catching up with his family for the first time in a while.

Plenty of media punters starting to ask "Where's Gaz?" as Ablett misses another week, making it 8 weeks since his round 1 appearance.

Quite a few sinking the boot in too!

How was Doc Larkins' report on him?! Pretty scathing of GAJ's decision making.

Didn't think I'd ever stick up for moneybags but I reckon this is a bit unfair. He will come back when he is ready and not before. This season is shot. If he misses more weeks that's more games the youngsters get into them. Since Leading Teams bitch-slapped Ablett in 2007 he has been the consumate professional.

Coming and back at half rat power just because Browny said so is a load of bollocks. As soon as he takes the field he'll have a mighty big target on his back. When he played Melbourne Viney just about rooted him up the arse. The Gold Cost just paid out on a new contract for the guy so smashing him up this year is bad business.

How can outsiders possibly evaluate Ablett's contribution to the club while on the sidelines. A very unfair comment for mine.

Was a comment from a guy who played through pain his whole career. I tend to agree that this season is shot so stay out, but getting paid over a mil per year to sit out is a bit rich (excuse the pun...) especially if the reason is he doesn't like to take pain killers.

I understood that but so what? Not everyone is Browny. It's because he is valuable he needs to sit out. If he was a bloke on the verge of being delisted he would have a lot to gain by playing through the pain barrier. If Gaz does it and stuffs his shoulder for good the Cost have just spent all that money for a half fit Gazza for 15 games instead of waiting till he's good to go and getting 70 games out of him.

For me it's the first time he's said something dumb in his new role.

Boys, please.....come on!

Gold Coast's AFL season of woe continues with star players Charlie Dixon and Jack Martin dropped for drinking the night before the Suns' loss to Hawthorn.

Key forward Dixon will miss Saturday's home clash with Sydney as a sanction from the team's leadership group.

Midfielder Martin was unavailable this weekend due to injury, having tweaked his hamstring in the 53-point loss to the Hawks.

However, the 20-year-old will remain in the reserves for an additional match once he is passed fit, the club said on Tuesday.

The pair admitted to consuming alcohol in their Launceston hotel rooms last Friday, the night before the Suns were thumped by the reigning premiers.

"We are extremely disappointed and embarrassed to be in this position," Suns captain Gary Ablett said.

"The team has met and our view is that these unacceptable and unprofessional behaviours must end.

"We have set new standards this year, and they must be adhered too."

Gold Coast dished out club-imposed suspensions to Danny Stanley, Harley Bennell, Trent McKenzie and Brandon Matera last month for disobeying a team drinking ban.

Those punishments related to celebratory drinks that followed the Suns' first win of the season.

Tom Nicholls and Dixon also admitted to a tipple on that occasion, but both players were excused given they were drinking at dinner with their families.

That 64-point victory over Brisbane remains the expansion club's only win of the year.

Ablett has not played since round two due to his shoulder injury, while a range of pundits have questioned the dual Brownlow medallist's leadership.

A raft of injuries has not helped the Suns' cause this season, but they have performed below expectations.

"Everyone at the club is disappointed by the actions of Charlie and Jack, the players know my thoughts, and importantly, the player leadership group have made their views really clear," coach Rodney Eade said.

"The player leadership group are taking on challenges they haven't had to deal with previously.

"It's a new test for some of them, and the coaches and administration will support them in leading these difficult but necessary decisions in the correct manner."
