Talk on the national game

Pretty hard to argue with Holmesby's selections. Many people would say 'why do you barrack for the Saints?', the answer would be because they got to cheer on Winmar, Harvey, Locket, Loewe, Burke, Stewart, Baldock, Neale, Barker, Riewoldt, Goddard, Dietrich and Hayes. I used to love watching Nicky Winmar and didn't realise that the Weagles cut him from their original 35 player list.

I only found that out by the little bio that he gave on each player.

I was surpised he had Barker so low, i was too young/not born when he played but from highlights ive seen and also the loyalty he showed to the club when we were struggling, he should of definitly been higher than 21.

After watching some of the internal trial and just working out a team id say this would be close to our best 22 to start the year off

F: Billings White Curren
HF: Newnes Riewoldt Membrey
C: Montagna Steven Templeton
HB: Savage Fisher Geary
B: Roberton Deleany Dempster
R: Hickey Armitage Dunstan
I: Ross Ray McCartin Longer
E: Acres, Markworth, Saad

I dont think you could go with McCartin and Longer on the bench. Think your a bit tall and need a few more runners.

I would start maybe McCartin in a pocket and Membery would be out for Acres just to start with.

Yeah i was thinking that when i was doing the bench, not sure what the plan with the ruck duties if we will go in with both or not.

I reckon Membrey will play most games this year he will be a hell of alot better than what Maister did for us.

We played alot better yesterday and did what we were suppose to do and beat a different looking Bombers. We moved the ball alot quicker than we did last week and a few players showed a bit like Templeton looked lively around the wings, Lonie might get some early game time as a small forward he looked dangerous, Bruce had about 8 possies but kicked 4 goals, Holmes kicked a very good goal in the first qtr.

The bad note is all these Hammies going, with Ross going down yesterday that makes 4 or 5 in the last two weeks to first choice players.

In good news for Saints fans, Jack Steven has signed a 5 year contract extension:

I think you be right there. The GWS would be expected to improve a fair amount this season. All of the kids are another year older, they recruited Griffen etc.

Massive overs there. Draw a line through that trial match. You blokes are better than GWS and will win comfortably.

There's a good chance of that, but you also have to factor in Melbournes spud-ness

I reckon they'll get a win somewhere along the season.

Melbourne, Brisbane in Melbourne, Bulldogs or Carlton likely to be one of them if I had to pick one of them it would be Carlton.

Yeah, one that got away for sure! He had a groin issues and was pretty inconsistent in 1986 and that's why the eagles let him slide.
