AFL draft - Thurs 27 Nov - (also PSD/Rookie draft 3/12/14)

Will be interesting to see if Freo takes Durdin at pick 13, Adelaide will presumably be hoping he is still available. Who they select is likely to be scrutinised in coming years, given the downgrade of their first pick.

Melbourne's picks at 2 & 3 will be worth watching too. They will obviously not want a repeat of many of their "failed" selections of recent years.

GWS with 4,6,7,23,24 on top of their recent gifts simply have to be the powerhouse in waiting.

The loss of Boyd, IMO, hurts a little with the continued poor luck of Patton, simply the weight of numbers of high draft picks must see them shoot towards the top in the next 2-3 years.

One thing's for sure, regardless of who the Crows select at pick #13, they'll run with "We got the one we wanted"

You would expect a better player at 10 than 14 but if the Cats get a better one at 47 than crows do at 35 then there would be some well deserved ridicule

One mock draft I noticed had Durdin going to GWS before Geel, Freo or Adel could get their hands on him.

As a Tigs supporter i hope we can get someone who is a quality ball user, quick outside player. Think that is one are we are lacking.

Interesting article about the crows possibly being able to snare wright too. And there looks to be a ton of key defenders in the draft too, so maybe the crows moving down the order doesn't look too bad.

From all the reports Ive read there's one or two standout picks, then not much between picks 3-30 roughly, so I don't think the Crows have done too badly at all if those reports are accurate. As always, it comes down to picking the right ones and developing them well.

St Kilda expected to pick Paddy McCartin as the number 1 draft pick

The right move I think, especially with Riewoldt on the way out.

An article on fox footy has suggested the saints have committed to McCartin, with Petracca and Brayshaw locks for Melbourne at 2&3.

With a good core of inside mids in Jones, Tyson and Viney, Groover- why would you want to add 2 more at the expense of a key forward that could potentially form a 10 year partnership with Hogan?

If I was a Demons fan, i'd be praying that the saints pick Petracca. Whilst Petracca will most likely turn out to be a fair player, Melbourne struggle to kick a score which would be acceptable for a game of soccer, and a trio of Hogan/Dawes/McCartin gives them a bit of potency in a few years.

This seems more likely now that the saints will take McCartin. It would be a good move as he and Membery would get time to work with Reivolt before he retires. The saints picked up a few good mids last draft in Billings and Dunstan for example. They also have picks 20 and 21 I think from memory so they will likely grab a few more mids then.

This is true, but still Petrecca and Brayshaw will turn Melbourne into a Midfield beast of a team in years to come. Hogan and Dawes up forward doesnt look too bad, but McCartin would be better. But if hes not there at picl 2 then there is not much you can do.

With all the early picks Melbourne have had in the last decade, they should have turned into a midfield beast of a team yonks ago.

Admittedly it may be closer to happening now, given that Roos is in charge.
