Which would mean all our other games, against Vic teams, would be 'home' games. That can't work either.

Well if collingwood can't flow with the rest of the league then get rid of them!!!

Seriously though I'm a Bullies fan and my boys only travel interstate 6 times for the year, plus a trip to Geelong. Included in those travelling games are a home game at Cazaly's in QLD vs Gold Coast and a trip to Aurora in Tassie against the Hawks.

Why do we expect the Vic clubs to travel just because the non Vic clubs have to? That's just how it is when half the comp play home games at the same two ovals...

I guess the issue comes in where we see some of the lesser Melbourne teams travel 5 times but collingwood only ever travel 3/4 times.

As I mentioned above it is done for commercial reasons, so I don't see it changing any time soon

Agree why should the Vic clubs have to travel.

The interstate clubs have chose to join their rebranded VFL.

Here are the 2014 Vic sides interstate games, some of them are 'home' games, but travel nonetheless

Collingwood 5 - ANZ, AO, MS, PS, SPO
Carlton 5, G, SPO, SCG,PS, AO
Essendon 5, PS, G, SPO, AO, SCG
Geelong 6 - G, AO, PS, SCG, MS, SPO
Hawthorn 9 - AU, MS, ANZ, AO, AU, AU, AO, AU, PS
Melbourne 6 - SPO, AO, TP, TIO, AO, PS
North Melbourne 8 - SCG, PS, PS, AO, G, BA, SO, BA
Richmond 6 - MS, G, SPO, PS, AO, ANZ
St Kilda 7 - PS, WS, AO, BA, MS, AO, SCG
Bulldogs 6- PS, SO, MS, AO, CS, AU

In my mind 1 or 2 more or less doesn't make too much difference...

well well well, we agree on something.
Given there will be no reserves comp, i think the salary caps in all state leagues need to be doubled to keep them strong. Any increase should be funded by the AFL. The AFL and all its clubs would benefit from this. In SA this would cost about 2.5 million/year. Small change for the AFL.
Somehow I dont think this would happen

I saw a figure of $300k a year bandied about when there was some talk of the crows putting their reserves team in the VFL, so i guess it wouldnt cost much more per team to build a whole AFL reserves comp. So they are much more likely to do that than pay the SANFL clubs more money to pay their players
