ADELAIDE assistant coach Dean Bailey will take indefinite leave after being diagnosed with cancer in his chest.
The Crows have revealed that Bailey was admitted to hospital following a recent acute illness and was found to have fluid in his left lung.
"This has been treated but, unfortunately, the underlying cause is cancer within the chest," the club said on its website.
"Dean is undergoing extensive tests to determine the exact type of cancer, but this has yet to be determined. He will shortly start appropriate therapy to treat the cancer and is expected to require some time away from work."
The 46-year-old former Melbourne coach played 53 games with Essendon from 1986-92.
The Crows say Bailey has a "typically positive outlook" and hopes to return to work soon.
