Port 2014 - Pre-Season/General Discussion

I know it's pretty early, but im excited and nervous for what 2014 holds, doesn't stop here need to keep moving forward.

After a pretty successful 2013, having a look forward to 2014 and beyond, what do we need to do to keep improving and making inroads to becoming a regular finals side and pushing the top 4?

Over the next week or so we will hopefully delist Hitchcock, D.Stewart and perhaps D.Butcher, with Brett Ebert retiring thats 4 spots opening, anyone else we can expect on the way out?

I would hope we try get a tall forward to help Schulz out, just uncertain on J.Butcher, obviously this pre-season will determine if he is gonna make the AFL level or unfortunately fall to the way side, this would also allow Westhoff to move down the ground more or even take up a role at CHB and give us more options in defence.

Overall i have alot more confidence in our list than twelve months ago, but to keep things going forward, a few top up, experienced players along with some good young players, will hopefully keep us in touch.

Today we delisted:

Nathan Blee
Nick Salter
Daniel Stewart
Matt Thomas
Danny Butcher
Justin Hoskin
Darren Pfeiffer

http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2 ... layer-list

Agree with all, only unlucky one i think Matt Thomas, but could possibly get opportunities else where.
Hitchcock lucky to survive i would have thought.

I'm guessing Hitchcock only survived because he was contracted.

I think the really unlucky one is Nathan Blee, what has he done wrong? He played 7 or 8 games this year and looks promising and is good back up for Pittard, O'Shae and Broadbent across half back.

Thomas I'm not surprised at, his form in the SANFL has been very good yet Logan got a gig ahead of him and Thomas just couldn't break into the side. Tough on him as I think he adds that depth we need to our list.

Salter and Stewart were expected, although I thought Stewart may have been someone to bundle up in a trade with a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Can we send him to Brisbane as part of any deal done for Polec?

Congrats to Chad Wingard winning his first Best and Fairest at the very young age of 20! Absolute freak, probably my favourite player at Port and in the AFL at the present, hopefully he can improve over the preseason get even fitter and perhaps spend time through the midfield more.

Best and Fairest results:

1: Chad Wingard
2: Travis Boak
3: Kane Cornes
4: Brad Ebert
5: Justin Westhoff

Fos Williams Medallist: Travis Boak
Gavin Wanganeen Medallist: Oliver Wines
Renault Supporters' Player of the Year: Chad Wingard
John McCarthy Award: Jack Hombsch
Coaches' Award: Justin Westhoff

Would love for the Power To Give Mitch Thorpe an AFL Life line, was drafted with pick 6 in 2006 and didnt make the most of it, We really need a ready made Key forward to ease the load on Schulz and at 194cm and nearly 90kgs seems the perfect fit, No one has ever questioned Thorpes ability but was smashed by injury and probably didnt cope with it as well as he should of. He is only 24 now and coming off the best year of his football career captain coaching South Launceston and also Winning the league medal i think now would be the perfect time to snap him up.

Matt White has accepted a 3 year deal to cross from Richmond this morning to kick off trade week.

He and Daniel Flynn (2 year contract as an international rookie) start our signings, with Tom Logan signing a 1 year deal this week keeping our free agents at the club.

Up until the draft, the only player i see us being interested in is Polec- what we put on the table for him is a mystery...

What will we use pick 13 on? A running midfielder or tall forward is my guess. Im following the combine very closely to see who might be a slider from the top 10..

I'm looking forward to 2014, and the wife and I purchased our memberships about an hour ago.

Nice work FC- Myself and my wife got ours organised in september when the first lot of preferred seating selections become available to existing members.

Im really looking forward to next year- I am a big fan of Melbourne's sporting precinct and have been longing for Adelaide to re-develop (or build) a CBD stadium. With a young squad (hopefully) on the rise and a new home ground- its impossible not to get excited for what the future holds for PAFC.

Where abouts are your seats FC??

On the topic of the trade period- what are peoples thoughts on giving up pick #14 to secure Polec? I'm a little aprehensive, unless we can manage a deal which sees us still secure a top 20 pick.

We've got the Essential Power memberships, so it's the unreserved seating in the Western Grandstand. What about you? I think we might have to catch up for a beer in Round 2.

I agree with your statement about Melbourne's sporting precinct too. They have at least 5-6 world-class multi-use sporting facilities within a few kilometres of the CBD, and I think it's a good idea for Adelaide, albeit on a much smaller scale.

Yes lads, got my Platinum seats on tier one of the Southern Stand towards the Western End of the stand. So the S/W pocket......but, the whole of the Western Stand is non-reserved, meaning anyone can sit anywhere in there and you wont be taking anyone elses seat!

The only time this will ever be the case is if they sell all of the Essential Power packs. I cant see that happening.

So as much as I am on level 1 of the Southern Stand it will be like Footy Park where my seat was foreign to me and I stood where I wanted. Likely to be the Western wing when poor weather or the hill when sunny.

And yes, I like beer to. ;)

Well, I suggest we all catch up before the Showdown.

Upgraded to Essential Power for next year. Like the idea of being able to sit in a different spot each week. And yes, beer is good

Its already good to see a number of people signing up- many of my power supporting friends have signed up as members for next year due to the shift- fingers crossed power members get on board and we can start to see regular 30k+ crowds regardless of timeslot.

Looks like we have an SA Footy gathering at the showdown too!

That's exactly why the wife and I decided on Essential Power. That, and guaranteed Grand Final tickets should we make it.

Sounds like a plan to me.
