Stupid bastard. Hiding to nothing there.
Only signed for two years with the option of a third?

Maybe he isn't so stupid after all, he's got a get out of jail card after the second year.

Roos is anything but stupid. Smartest operator in the AFL. Whether it's with players, his assistants (Lyon and Longmire both learnt the craft under Roos), the media or supporters. If Peter Jackson stays on at Melbourne, they will improve very quickly on and off field. Look at Port with the right people.

Pretty smart move. Guaranteed $3 million no matter what. Could go 0-22 and still get paid.

He might be a good operator, but with all the umm'ing and ahh'ing he has reportedly done over recent months I'm surprised he would want the Melbourne job. More surprised he's only signed for two years as well. Doesn't look like someone who has commited long term to the very difficult task at hand.

Never signed for more than 2 or 3 at the swans.

Did Melbourne offer more?
They've been burnt by multi-year coaching contracts before....

Melbourne forward line could be very appealing next year with the likes of these blokes
CLark
Dawes
Hogan
Howe
Watts
Fitzpatrick
now with all these types, the rumours about them chassing buddy is nothing less than stupidity, I would be chasing a big name midfielder and also grabbing Daniel Cross as a free agent to help show the likes of Toumpas and even the captain Trengove how to go about it. Defence is still thin but it all cant be fixed at once.

People might have said the same thing about Hinkley the year before. If Roos can build a culture and develop the players they have they'll be fine. Just need to beef up that midfield and hang on to blokes like Watts, Frawley and Sylvia.

I dont see it the same as Hinkley. Hinkley was as untried long-serving assistant who would have (and perhaps did) take the first role offered to him. Roos has nothing left to prove to the footballing world.

Yeah but people still might have said Hinkley was a hiding to nothing taking on a team that had struggled for years. Same statement but for different reasons. It was always going to end well though Boon the man is a Cat!

I reckon he'll probably be fairly keen to replace Trengove as captain.

Yep- Jones needs to captain this football club.
Trengove is just too young and inexperienced and Grimes just cant take a trick with injury.

It sort of makes you wonder why Adelaide persisted for so long with Neil Craig. His stint at Melbourne proved he is a dud otherwise they would have given him the gig surely?

Not really, its just that Roos is a better coach than Craig.
Crsig had a bit of success in his initial years at the Crows, but he had already run his race there by the last couple of years at AFC. Similar to Worsfold this year at WCE.
Craig had to deal with the aftermath of Neeld's mess (playing list etc), so cant be that harshly judged for his efforts in the latter part of this season when he took over.

I don't agree. He was assistant to Neeld so is fully responsible for that mess. And when Neeld departed nothing improved. He had a great list at West Lakes and the club continually underachieved. Sorry, he's a spud

He would be an out an out genius in my eyes if he can get Melbourne a premiership....
