I liked the way he played and took the game on. He ran himself into trouble often, but it is better than watching a robot turn sideways, and kick it to his mate, and then run backwards to get the ball back again.

Bit of a shock re Mattner. Been a good AFL player.

Looking at this week's games, not an overly inspiring list, although Ess v Carl, and Adel v Syd, could be interesting.

GC would probably fancy themselves as half a chance of an upset v North, too.

Probably one of my favourite AFL players actually. Mainly because he was different. Carried the ball, broke lines, very old school in a way, perhaps lost in todays game.

Was more than capable of the odd brain fart which made him difficult to watch sometimes but also added to the character of him as a player.

As someone has said previously, got the most out of his ability, and perhaps even more due to work ethic.

I remember watching him pound up and down the outer wing at footy park for Sturt in the 02 GF. Hurt his ankle early in the first quarter but continued to work, provide run, create space and carry the footy against a very classy and hungry bulldogs side.

Probably one of the few players in the AFL that rely on the size of their heart and hunger over their ability and aerobic fitness.

Great career Marty, a very entertaining, unique and perhaps old world footballer you have been. Thank you for keeping footy interesting.

I was dissapointed he fell out of favour at AFC and we really have lacked that HBF run an carry player. We only have now seen Brodie Smith come in an shown he can do that role.

Would have loved Marty's body to allow him to come back to play for Sturt

IMO Collingwood aren't that great at the moment and Melbourne will be treating this as their grand final. Will be alot closer than most think.
