I think it's a great rule, makes the player pick the ball up and hit the contest. Sliding in because there too scared of the contest reminds me too much of that fairy game soccer

Perhaps the AFL is on a mission to make it a game of spectating with no, or minimal, contact

Another step back for Aussie Rules The only people I can think of liking this rule are the Selwood haters.

Can't say I have ever seen a soccer player sliding in head first to a contest, would be hell funny though.

If the rule was for sliding in to take out someone's legs I'm all for it, what I saw last night is just dumb. The bombers handled it well to be honest. The next thing you will see is more head to head clashes because everyone is trying to keep their feet and bend over and pick up the ball. Keeping your feet and picking up the ball cleanly in a contest is hard, not every player in the game can do it, players are recruited because they get in on the ground and I've it out to the outside players. Been done for over 100 years now and players now have to change thief game for a stupid rule! Hate it.
