Merv Neagle was killed today after his semi trailer rolled over.
Was one of my favourite Bomber players and is very sad news. Best wishes to his family in these difficult times

Well that comes as a shock :(

Very sad :(

From memory, I'm thinking he played for at least one other club, I'm thinking Carlton? perhaps Sydney too?

Regardless of that..

RIP Merv

geeezzz......

Merv coached my local team in Sunraysia to back to back flags in the early noughties. although i was only playing juniors there at the time and didn't have a lot to do with the man himself apart from joining in on the seniors training runs occasionally, when i read the title of the thread my stomach dropped. he turned my local club (Merbein) from a laughing stock to premiers, and the club will forever owe him for that. was a good bloke from what i'd heard, and quite the larrikin when he wanted to be.

That's very sad news to hear. I remember watching him play for both Essendon and Sydney. Many times for Sydney as I watched most of Sydney's Sunday games in 86 and 87. Time goes so quickly.

I realise now it was Glenn Hawker who I was thinking of that played for Essendon, then Carlton.

Was he any relation to Jay Neagle who played at the Bombers also?

Yes, father/son.
Another son Jydon is currently in the James Hird Youth Academy at Essendon and plays for the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup. Turns 18 next week
