I find that a little difficult to believe.
He's not going to be able to sign a contract months before the official trade period.
Agreed, how can you sign off on a trade getting done? Surely the Crows still have to agree to what they offer up before any deal is done? If they dont want what the Swans have to offer then no trade will get done and he goes into the PSD? I would say then Gold Coast would get him, Crows get nothing for him but the contract wouldn't be with Sydney.
I heard Leigh Matthews talk about Sydney getting 15% above the salary cap for cost of living and that in his opinion this wasn't for them to be able to win a flag then go out and offer $4mil to one player. I tend to agree, seems a little bit outside of what the concession is intended for.
More fool Sydney IMO, we were dumb enough to make him our highest paid player two years ago (and would have done the same again this year) and now he is going to be the highest paid at another club, all based on potential. To be honest, and I would really only say it now he has gone, I cant ever see him being a big game breaker All Australian type player, he lacks consistency and when he is down is struggles to get back in.
Loyalty has been gone in football for a long time, we had benefit from it in 97/98 with Darren Jarman coming home. With free agency now a one club player will become rare IMO.
