The Cloke and Dawes Dilemma

The form of both Cloke and Dawes have been quite laughable of late IMO. All the contract talk surrounding Cloke has had a negative effect, no-one can doubt this.
My question is, does Buckley and the Match Committee have the guts to drop them both? Will he do it?
I reckon that the way they are going, Tarrant up forward as the key forward, and the enthusiasm of all the small blokes up their will be more beneficial than that of a Cloke/Dawes led forward line. The pressure to come out of their forward line would be immense. The likes of Fasolo, Sinclair, Thomas, Goldsack would create huge pressure on the rebounding side. With the improvement and emergence of Sidebottom and Beams, both whom can play forward, it allows the opportunity to rotate Swan through the forward line a lot more where he can use his core strength and marking ability to become a real nuisance.
Obviously dropping both of these blokes would mean that Cameron Wood would need to play to provide jolly with a rest in the ruck. This could actually free Jolly up to play a lot more forward and Wood in the ruck. jolly has proven himself as a goal kicker over the years and has a good grab on him.
Any chance of this happening? I doubt it would happen to both of them, but jeeze i would love to see Cloke and Dawes both get dropped in the lead up to finals.

IMHO The Pies have to get Cloke into some sort of form, as I don't think they can win the flag without him being a decent contributor .. I'm not really sure how they can do that, but they've got to find a way.

Cloke still gets the best defender so you would leave him in
The problem is you still need another 5 to kick 20 goals between them
I have always said; any forward kicking less than 4 goals hasn't done his job - they get everything and most still do SFA

Need to drop Dawes and bring in smaller more mobile forward line... maybe play Tarrant across half forward - at least he will move up the ground more than Dawes. this will allow Trav to play a bit more one out in the forward 50... They are also sorely missing the likes of Didak/Krakour in the forward half, with their creativity and high skills.

They are willing to give Zac Dawson a game
Maybe Simon Phillips is on their radar too

Having key forward targets creates other avenues to goal. Zoning defenders go to the tall forwards, which opens the field up for the running players. Collingwood have been winning games and kicking goals without the two big guys doing much.
Definitely need at least two of Clokes/Dawes/Tarrant up forward.

Cloke is one clunking contested mark away from being back in form. ( Did that make it* move for you Q? ) A couple of grabs and turn around and goal gets a key forward back in the game quicker than a few kicks for a midfielder IMO.
With a tough run home though Collingwood need Cloke to find form against GWS this week and St.Kilda the next.
Sydney, North, WCE and Essendon wont afford him the space he will get over the next two weeks.

Continue with Dawes at your own peril... he doesnt do enough when the ball hits the deck and he is too easily taken out of the game... can't afford to have both him and cloke not infulencing the game... Cloke much much better so he stays in... mobile forwards is the better option IMO

Dawes is there for a reason. Being used as a second ruck option and is averaging 2.5 tackles a game. I think they have been happy with his defensive pressure.

against gws this week they should run him into touch,
personally i would put cloke at centre half back for a couple of games to see what hard work is needed and required for the key forward positions
might also help him learn where he should be running to
his whole career has been built on belting up the weaker clubs

Enough to keep him in

I'm one for dropping them, Dawes especially as he's giving nothing.
I know its hard to replace big key position players ( FWDS at that ) but that doesn't mean a player gets a free ride with no form to date.
Good time to try something different this week playing GWS, play Tarrant at F/F with a smaller but quicker forward 5 around him atleast their will be more pressure applied in holding the bloody ball inside 50 instead of watching Cloke & Dawes lumbering around unaccountable.

Are you willing to lose his 2.5 tackles per game?!?!?!?

he's an All-Australian Premiership forward, with a club BnF under his belt, i rekon he's got a fair idea off what he needs to do/where he needs to be.
confidence is a big thing for some players, unfortunatly for us, he is one of them.

i understand he had one really good year
but the facts are he doesnt work anywhere near harder enough
the fact is that he is big and strong that a couple of clubs want him
but with a bad record on goal kicking, doesnt work hard enough, easily suxed in means maybe he is not as good as some people think, esp him and his dad
