This Years Draft

Postby Footy Smart » Wed Jul 11, 2012 2:53 pm

Watched the Vic Metro and WA U18 game and WOW there is some serious talent coming through not just this year but next.

Cant believe I heard Melbourne considering not to take Viney as a Father Son selection?

Daniher is a no brainer and already training with the Dons.

But WA had some real talent, couple of indigenous lads Martin and Simpson look like the total package pace, reasonable size and not affraid to get the contested ball. They also had a big fella at CHF Hogan who is to young for this draft but looks like possible No1 with his ability to take a contested mark and he has a body ready for AFL footy already.

Anyone else see much of the carnival?

I think the scouts are saying the 2013 draft is set to be a bottler with plenty of big lads coming through who are not old enough for this year.

Footy Smart, I think Melbourne are thinking that they may be safe to pick up Viney without having to use their father son. I think that they are worried that if they select him as a father son, GWS & GC can bid for him also thus raising his order higher, leaving GWS & GC to get a better pick of the rest. Not sure of the draft order for clubs or if I've made much sense.

The FS rule is great now. The demons don't see viney as a top 5 pick. So they need to hope that all other sides don't see him as a first rounder. If other clubs see him as there second pick the demons will take him with there second pick but if clubs like the crows or collingwood see him as a their first pick at around pick 14 to 18. The demons will be forced to take him with pick 2 or 3

As for daniher, the bombers are in a real pickle. They Badly want Josh Caddy who they almost got last year and only signed for one year with GC. But to get him they will need to give GC their first round pick and maybe second or a player. And of coarse the GC are going to Nominate Daniher as a first rounder, but other clubs will too. So they may have to trade a decent player out to get a second first round pick.
Fun times ahead in the trade period that is a month this year

I was under the impression it was a done deal and he has started training with them. This was from the Hanger on Fox footy............ I would be taking Daniher over Caddy for sure, there will always be plenty of midfield options come through and a 200+cm athletic 18 year old who plucks grabs and kicks goals for fun dont come round that often.

What happens say if Essendon do trade their first round pick to someone. Then opt to take Daniher as f/s & other clubs say they would take as a first rouneder, do Essendon still get first grab at him with their first pick say it was a round 3 selection or do they other clubs?
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Apparently Rendell said just before 'the incident' that on paper it was shaping up as the best draft ever.

With menzels knee issues and other injuries, could slip to past pick 10.

Taking a ruckman with an early pick is always risky
