Just heard on radio that Leon Davis has quit Collingwood over a pay dispute and will be playing SANFL or WAFL next year.

Surely would go in the pre season draft. Mind you I think he would look alright in a Westies jumper

Has previously said he wants to return to WA. Can't see him playing here.
It's a bit out of left field. Our salary cap pressures were obvious, but I saw Macaffer and McCarthy going first.

I just read that his partner and her family are from SA, so may be a chance.
What I don't get is that he was offered a contract he believes is $100K short of what he's really worth, but then why go play in a state league where he'll receive even less?

His agent's done a handshake nod-nod with GWS to meet his wage demand and select him in the PSD?

Less training, less pressure, media etc. who knows.
Poor effort by Collingwood, had a better season but take a pay cut, what an insult to a loyal 12 year servant of the club.

Yeah, I reckon something fishy is going on. If not with GWS, then with one of the WA teams who can now get him for nothing.

Everyone is taking pay cuts at Collingwood.

I suspect it has something to do with trying to manage salaries for Pendlebury, Thomas, Swan, Dawes etc etc. Probably makes sense to move on someone towards the end of the career, than lose a young gun.

would have been good for collingwood to know this before trade week so he could have returned home and collingwood receive something in return.
i thought his year was quite outstanding (apart from the GF, he was no orphan there).
he will get picked up in the draft, he will head either north or west, must be sure of getting picked up to knock back an AFL contract, maybe a deal has all but been done?

This is another casualty of the inflationary wage pressure created by Gold Coast and GWS. I think GWS made major plays for Swan, Thomas and Pendlebury.
All 3 were signed but now we get to the end of the season and they can't afford one of this year's all-Australians.
I wonder how much easier Geelong found their list management once Ablett left.

I simply think he has given Collingwood the opportunity to do the right thing by him, they havent, and so he will probably nominate for the draft and if he isnt picked up by a WA team then he wont play, ie if another club picks him up, he will retire.
He can also attach a salary to his head, similar to Luke Ball, which will help him get to the right club. No team is going to take the risk of drafting him against his will for 1 or 2 years of service.

I am all for WCE grabbing him for cheap.
Will be able to seriously help our challenge for a premiership in the next 2 yrs IMO.

Disappointing to lose him but hopefully it allows us to keep Mcaffer, bringing Clarke back from Ireland should cover Leons role down back nicely.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/davis-walks-out-on-collingwood-taylor/story-e6frf9jf-1226176558683A MOVE to South Australia to play with the Power or Crows is not out of the question for homesick Pie Leon Davis, according to his manager, Liam Pickering.
Pickering confirmed this morning that Davis wants to leave Collingwood in order to return to Perth to be with his family.
But should neither West Coast nor Fremantle want to select the 30-year-old in the national or pre-season drafts, Davis would entertain a move to SA.
Fremantle has already ruled out interest in Davis.
While coach Ross Lyon showed a tendency to recruit experienced players while at St Kilda, the Dockers will not consider taking him for a final year.
The Dockers have a rigid list management strategy and plan to instead stock up with kids in the national draft rather than use spots on their list to top up.
West Coast has only two selections in the national draft, picks 23 and 28, and said last night it was almost no chance to recruit Davis.

I'm a bit disappointed it's turned out this way. Davis kicked some of the best goals I've seen from a Collingwood player since Daicos and I'll miss seeing those sublime footskills in action.

Agreed...brilliant goal kicker and overall a great kick. Bloody sad to see him go as i rate him better than Macaffer.
Could be tough for us to keep our guns at this rate,as someone said before, the inflationery influence of the Suns and the Giants has had its desired effect. The best players can ask for more money, so our biggest task is creating the environment so good, that they wont leave. Big job and good luck Eddie.

What do Crows/Power fans think about the suggestion he would be open to playing for an Adelaide based side?
I think he would be very handy off the half back line for Adelaide, but I doubt Sando and crew will go for it as they seem to be focusing on the 18-24 yr old age group.
