Trades

As we now get to the silly time of the year(for us cellar dwellers anyway). I was thinking we could leave a few good hints for the crew down at West Lakes.

Maric: Definately lost the #1 ruck spot, could be looked at by Richmond. Maybe work out some sort of 3 way trade to see if we cant get Jordan Russell back to SA, maybe Maric(AFC)-Richmond, Tuck( or 2nd rd pick) RFC) - Carlton, Russell - Adelaide.

Brodie Martin: First few games look 1st class, but has dropped down the pecking order a bit i think unfortunately. Sydney might be interested with the loss of Kennelly and the uncertainty over Malceski's knee. Could be worth a first or 2nd round draft pick otherwise Heath Grundy(if he would come) could stiffen our defence well playing as a solid half back.

Kurt Tippett: I am a massive fan of Tippett but.....If he does eventually want to leave, would be good to see him increase his value and manufacture a trade with Gold Coast for maybe Sam Day/Seb Tape dual trade(our win) + Walker plays way better without Tippett in the side :(

I've looked over Richmond's list and there is not one player that could interest me in a straight swap for Maric, obviously only considering realistic alternatives. Wouldnt want a bar of Morton/Browne/White/Webberley/Nason in exchange, considering it would leave us a little short in the ruck department. A 3 way trade looks most likely, although Jordan Russell is no chance of being involved in a trade like this, his currency is much higher. Would happily take Daniel Jackson if he was on offer although unlikely.

We need 1 more ready made midfielder, a good forward pocket (Lindsay Thomas might have come cheap had his form not improved), and a good rebounding defender, or sweeper, like a Bob Murphy or Luke Hodge/Sam Fisher.

Its suggested that Knights is on the table and in exchange a Clinton Young or Rick Ladson would be a good get, play the back flank role Tambling is supposed to play.

I like Brodie Martin as a player and agree that he has fallen down the pecking order. But, asking for a 1st rounder for him is very high IMO. All we would get for him (if he was to be put on the table) is a low 2nd rounder.
Talk is Pearce (PtA) - Maric swap. I think we lose out in that one. Someone mentioned in the 2012 thread they think Pearce may go to GWS.
If we could work out a trade to get someone like Russell from Carlton, I would be happy to put Douglas and Knights on the table as potential trade options.

I hate to say it folks, but at the moment we have nothing that any other team would want -certainly not when it comes to fringe players anyway.

The solution to our current slump will not be found at the trade table, it has to come through the draft & from our current squad.

In my opinion Adelaide should let the new coach get his hands on the current squad, and then re-assess in 12 months. A different coach could have many players playing a lot differently to what they have been under Neil Craig.

Ride it out for another 12 months, then pull the trigger when there's a decent uncompromised draft to use draft picks in.

I would never consider Daniel Jackson as a trade to the Crows, i have watched him over the years and on Sunday he confirmed to me wot a DILL he is, makes dumb decisions and cannot kick for goal no matter how close he is, he is typical of the type of player that Richmond has recruited over the last couple of years when under pressure they will make the dumbest mistakes, and shows where the Tigers stand in relation to the rest of the competition, as for Nason he is not AFL standard took Richmond awhile to work that out.

Cheers

Edwards wouldnt be a bad pickup, take him and Post. Not sure how Helbig's name is thrown around though, you get a 2 year contract when you are drafted so he will still be contracted to Richmond as only drafted last year.

People in and around the AFC have to get used to the fact that if the club is to participate in Trading Week then you have to trade good players in order to get good players....

Edwards and Nason are rubbish, Helbig is the youngest and from what I saw looked okay.

I'd prefer a pick, even though we can't draft (controversial, I know...).

The Kangas have just delisted Ed Lower... He could add some grunt into the side to help Rory Sloane moving forward.
Thoughts on picking him up in the draft / rookie draft?

Helbig maybe. Nason no thanks, struggled at reserves level.

Still on Russell, i see he was dropped at Carlton again for the first elimination final. Honestly, they are not at full strength and he is struggling to cement his spot(after 5 or so years). Make a deal happen while he's still youngish, Would we swap him for Knights?

I reckon offering the kangaroos something for Greenwood would be wise too. Maybe a 2nd round pick? He will be one player to watch in the next 2-3 years imho.

As for Ed Lower, why not. Should be a bit of space on the list after their management calls. Could do a lot worse. ie recruit Tambling!

What's he like? Never really taken much notice of him. Swap for JR maybe?

He's a very promising player. He's a bit short to be a true KPP and he's a on the slow-sih side, but he has many strengths. Terrific pair of hands, knows when and where to lead, he is an exceptionally smart player, and he's a great kick.

But if he wants to leave then he can go and get stuffed!!!!!!

This home sick business really gives me the shits. In the states you hardly hear of nba and nfl players wanting trades coz there homesick. They will play to play the dream anywhere in America and you have these pussy AFL who cant hack living away from home and the plane ride is only 50 mins to go home. Piss off Guntson

Pretty hard to comment when none of us know the circumstances though.

Not a done deal yet either according to the paper today. Contract negotiations have stalled and he has flown home to Melbourne, but there's a few weeks left yet to get him to come around.

Hopefully at the very least they can convince him to hold off on a decision until the new coach is appointed. [-o<
