Showdown

What do we think boys, can we get over the line in this one?

I think we can. As poor as our season has been I think our cross town rivals are at the lowest of points on field and having last weekend off to sit back and watch them "implode" might just give us the egde.

I think they'll come out all bash and crash early but typically that sort of approach only lasts for the first 1/4 or so. If Chad, Hoff and Sargeant can fire up front I think we'll have the fire power to kick 6 goals to their 4. ;)

Plus, they come out and win this week all the bullshit they have said about how they respect Craig is just piss in the wind.

Yes I think we can win this. Port only seem to get up and ready to play against the crows. The inclusion of westhoff will be in favour of the power (this bloke loves playing adelaide judging by recent form!) and after the week the crows have had, perfect time to sink the boot in and get off the bottom!

Interesting to note that adelaide have lost the past 3 showdowns, and this weekend they are about to make it number 4. Carn port!

We can definitely win it, but like all Showdowns I see it as a 50/50 game.

There's a big unknown how they'll respond to the coaching drama.

One of Schulz, C Cornes or Westhoff needs to have a big one for us to win.

I think it will be close, margin unlikely to be greater than 4 goals either way.

I'd be shadowing Thompson (well, not me personally.. :p) with maybe K.Cornes and Vince with Pearce, then I'd be backing our lads to win the clearances from centre & around the stoppages. If we let those two run around like unregistered dogs, we'll get stitched up & unbackable fave's to stay in 17th spot for the remainder of 2011. :? Hopefully The Chad fires up!!! 8)

Could also be a NIL-all draw. ;)

After not scoring and losing to the bye last week, surely we'll put in a better effort this week :?

I like the vince / pearce matchup. Vince is playing sh1t at the moment, and its a chance for pearce to become damaging for us and make vince accountable which will inturn make him invaluable to adelaide. Kane will go to thompson, how effective who knows.

I suspect Thomas & Cornes.K will tag-team Thompson. Remains to be seen though.

Personally, I think our main dangers are going to be Sam Jacobs (been stacking a few solid games together of late), Tippett (hopefully his Lindsay Thomas-like kicking yips continue!) and Dangerfield (provides a spark and can be explosive).

If there is a footy God, I hope he's been listening.. ;)

Give me a go on any of them. I'll "blow up" in the first 30 seconds but for the love of the jumper and club I'll crawl over broken glass to chase one of those bastards down.

Just need the 22 who take the field for us to feel the same way.

Interesting interview with Chad by Roo.

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/the-almighty-showdown-swansong/story-e6frecj3-1226104534138

TOMORROW'S Showdown has become a massive game for all the wrong reasons.

The Crows face their first game without coach Neil Craig and Port is trying to get a win to avoid its first wooden spoon.

Aside from that it looks like it will be the final chapter in the career of one of the Power's finest players - Chad Cornes.

Twelve years after making his debut, tomorrow's match looms as Cornes' final Showdown.

On the eve of the grudge match, which Cornes described as his favourite of the season, I sat down with him to reflect on a great career.

Chad's always cracked me up.

Love the way he struts around like a peacock.

Geez, I'd be tempted to let him play on for another year...

Showdown

Postby RustyCage » Mon Aug 01, 2011 1:26 pm

Terrible game of footy, haven't seen one that bad in a long time. Pathetic skills by both teams, fumbled and turned the ball over so many times. The crows wouldn't beat any team other than us or maybe the suns with the way they played. One positive is it looks like we won't have o'shea next week, hopefully a few more join him on the sidelines. Westhoff came back too soon, Lobbe shows he is nothing more than a back up ruckman at best, and the grew and salter just aren't up to it. Trengove shouldn't be playing as he is clearly troubled by his injured knee. Logan has neither the skills, awareness or decision making ability to play AFL footy, and thomas is very similar. kanes time has come. Ebert is getting back to what he can do regularly, Hitchcock had his best game for us for a long time, and hartlett and boak are all class.

Very unimpressed with what Primus is doing with this team.

Need a big clean out at the end of this year, both on field and off it
