One of the AFL's Irish pioneers has passed away.

WOW .. I didn't even realise he was sick .. That is terribly sad news :(

I had no idea he was that ill myself.

diagnosed with lung cancer and never smoked :shock: **** thats unlucky
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

Just saw this on Fox Sports, I also had no idea he was sick.

I will never forget that mark he took at the Gabba, one of the best I will ever see.

Yes that is correct, apologies just came in to edit my post but you were too quick.

Sad that he died of lung cancer despite being a non smoker.

I had heard a while back that he was sick and remember thinking how terribly unlucky and sad that 2 of the Irish imports to arrive at the same club at the same time got this awful disease. Then I had forgotten all about it until I read today's sad news. :(

yes very sad. What threw me was
a) he never smoked
b) diagnosed early this year and carked it withing 20-odd weeks
c) only 47 yrs old
People who bought this book also bought a stool and some rope. Unknown literary critic
