Could this Work

I put this on another FORUM

A good idea or bad idea
What if they changed 1 part of the NAT...DRAFT where a club could PASS or
say LEASE.
PASS
Naturally means they can have a pick in the P.S.DRAFT
LEASE
Means they hold their pick JUST in case they get a L.T.INJURY or a season
ending INJ.if this happens ,the club could look for a player in all STATES
providing he nominated for the draft BUT missed out Some S.A. players I think could hold their own in the AFL (Fisher,Rowe,Alleway,Micklejohn,Parry)
Instead of upgrading young ROOKIES to fill a position you could pick a HARDEN MATURED player in RUCKMAN,MIDFIELDERS,F/WARDS, BACKS
The down side is how do they COMPENSATE the player and CLUB
The upside is the player could be ROOKIED the following year

I think your suggestion is basically that AFL teams could grab players from any other league at any other time of the season

It might be good for the AFL team but the team and league that lose the player may not be wrapped with the idea

I think sometimes the step up to AFL is bigger than it might appear and these mature aged recruits more likely need a full pre-season in the AFL system to be able to have an impact rather than jumping out of a lower league without notice.
In between signatures .....
