Having the bye in my own footy, decided to watch a bit of VFL footy on the tv between Port Melbourne and Werribee. reports have come from the commentators that a patron has been ejected for racial comments towards north melbourne listed werribee player Majok Daw. unfortunate situation but seems to have mirrored similar actions in the SANFL in recent weeks.

Was at the game as I have travelled over for the crows game and have been told by my brother who heard the comments that it was easily the most disgraceful things he has heard at a football game.

Any news link on that?

There was something at the Collingwood game too- Eddie got right into a spectator that was allegedly racially abusing A-Krakeour...

Not good, and it's starting to become more and more common...

is it becoming more common or is it just being reported on more in the media? i would say the latter still there is no place in this day and age for racism!

We are still a very racist nation. I know at my work and dealings with people that an hour wouldnt go past without a derogatory comment made about some race even if made jokingly.

Unfortunately i agree and working in schools many kids are coming from homes where it is ok to degrade someone based on race and/or religion. Then people wonder why adults turn out the way they do.

Disgraceful.

It's a shame that white people are still racist, especially when they've never been on the receiving end.
If we can only get these white people to clean up their act, racism will vanish forever.

Compared to who?
A lot of those people that have derogatory comments aimed at them come from cultures that are much less accepting of white Anglo Saxons than the other way around......................oh that's right, it's not racial abuse if a white person is on the recieving end

This is my view. Obviously there is no place for it, but I've always thought racism wasn't race specific.

Since moving away from SA I haven't been to many matches, but in all my years of watching footy I don't think I can remember any incidence involving racist remarks from a spectator that could overhear so I'm hoping it's a fairly rare occurrence.

Being a dirty ranga or a fat bastard is of course another matter. Heard plenty of comments relating to players with red hair or who were a little rotund.

There would be minority sections of all cultures that hold essentially racist views. Not sure how it's relevant here, unless there is the suggestion that we should condone it because it happens elsewhere?
