Don't know about you, but I can't wait for Friday night. I'm tipping the Pies in a close one but would be nice if the Cats can sneak in a win. Ottens is the key IMO. If he can get on top in the ruck, the Cats may be able to pull off an upset.

Collingwood weren't very convincing against the Dogs until halfway through the last quarter. I think the Cats are a far better chance of winning than the bookies suggest.

He doesn't, geelong win!
Why? Tarrant is there key defender, the one who actually defends. He allows O'brien and Maxwell to be the runners and attackers from defense and third man up. They have both been nothing but terrible this year and both would be struggling to keep their spot if it wasn't for some injuries and their points on the board. I think Chris Tarrant is the key.

The key to this game is how Geelong handle Collingwood's method of keeping the play inside their forward half. Geelong have to be a lot more patient coming out of defence than they have in the last couple of matches against Collingwood.

In this game I'm tipping that blokes like Menzel and Duncan hold the key for Geelong as Collingwood won't know as much about them as the old faces. Menzel in particular should not be underestimated as he is a great contested mark for his size, just ask Micheal Firrito!

For the Pies if they send out a Wood to do a Jolly's job then Ottens will kickstart the Cats and we'll have an absolute cracker on our hands. If we bring out the Thompson playbook it will be the Pies easily. Patience young Jedi!

Cats for me, but only just.
Should be a cracker.
Looking forward to seeing Chapman, Selwood etc up against Swan, Pendlebury etc.

hopefully they smash each other to pieces and give the teams playing them the next week some sort of a chance.

Both teams are experienced and i think the result might be closely connected to the weather. If its a wet night i think the cats would start favourites but if its dry i would be tipping collingwood. This isn't to say that both teams aren't good in whatever conditions just that i think geelong still have the bigger bodies with a touch more experience in close and collingwoods speed would be better suited to a dry weather game of footy.

Yeah, it is confirmed to be on live in Vic but perhaps a half-hour delay for us in SA to have the game telecast at 7.30pm?

Should be a cracker of a game...Ottens gives first use to geelong they will kill us..If its an even ruck dual we will win but it will be close...Cloke v taylor will be a key also.cant wait for the first bounce.

Geelong the only side that has the skills to execute that patient movement from defence, but, that's playing into Collingwoods hands IMO as they force you to slowly go sideways.

Does anyone play the corridor anymore? Geelong or anyone wanting to beat Collingwood IMO need to take on the centre corridor and avoid heading wide.

Also, Maxwell needs to be made accountable for if he doesn't get the ball he is often third man up to spoil. Will Geelong be happy ot have Scarlett loose at one and and Maxwell at the other? I hope not as that will lead to a Collingwood win. Not saying Maxwell is a better player, but Collingwood are a better team when he does as he pleases.

Geelong look to be rejuvenated somewhat in 2011 but I think Collingwoods best is 3-4 goals better than Geelongs best.

Geelong in great nick, Collingwood not quite up to their best yet, so, Collingwood for mine under 3 goals.

I notice opposition teams are tagging Matty Scarlett, perhaps Geelong should look at tagging Maxwell or Shaw?

Ah see this is where I disagree with you. Collingwood generate a lot of score from opposition turnovers. A lot of these turnovers were caused as Geelong tried to go the corridor just as we did successfully for the previous three years. I believe that going into the corridor prematurely is what plays into Collingwood's hands.

I think (and hope) that you will see Geelong kick the ball more in defence as opposed to ring a ring a rosey handballs like we did last year. As for whose best is better than whose there is no way of knowing this as both sides haven't played thier best football this season and won't do so for many months. Both teams playing 'burst' football at the moment.

Knowing when to switch from defence into attack whilist facing 'the press' is of far more value than just 'going into the corridor'. Those days are over.

St Kilda - full court press not exactly tagging Scarlo
Fremantle - Freo also implementing a press but take more risks than this year's Saints model.
Port - no pressure at all
Sydney - Scarlo run amok and was BOG
Hawthorn - No tag on Scarlo there
North - very similar to the Port game

I know you simply cant go "down the guts" anymore but Collingwood, IMO, leave a CHF of the opposition to lead straight up the ground as leading wide at their half back line is money for jam for them. Agreed, going to the centre too early suits them but for mine the best way to beat them from rushing back is to be as long and direct as possible.

Slowing down in defence ( chip kick and mark ) plays into Collingwoods hands too as they move the press from side to side and the lesser teams with a poor skill level get eaten alive by this, turnover after turnover.

Perhaps the ring-a-ring a rosy is the Catters way ( they think ) of getting around the press?

High play on percentage by hand, perhaps a bit more foot to a contest down the line. We've got just as much size as they do so why not force them into a contest. I'll hold my tip until I see the Geelong side. Would love to see SJ in for Mooney as he is done. Lingy probably won't come up but I'd like to see him tagging a Shaw or Maxwell as he can take a contested mark and kick goals.

I've got a horrible feeling Mooney will get selected and we'll have to carry him against the top side. If this happens we get done.

Ling on Shaw? Shaw would burn him off, in open ground, Lingy is a yard or two behind the speedsters of the comp now. In traffic, strength and nouse keep him well in it.

I'd send him to Maxwell too.

If Ling doesn't get respect he can become a vital goal kicker. He's played pretty well this season but because he doesn't play for Essendon, Hawthorn or Carlton no one has noticed it. Got a feeling he won't come up anyhow.

I believe both Jordan Lewis (Hawthorn) and Sam Wright (Kangaroos) have both had forward tags on him in previous weeks.
