Both are a long way away, both were the yardstick 7 or 8 years ago, and are now paying for this success through lack of decent draft picks. Both also are paying for very poor off field decisions over recent years as well.

Brisbane are getting the "best 0-5 team in history" tag at the moment, just as the crows did last year. In terms of the malthouse premiership clock they would both be somewhere around 5a.m. the time when its coldest and darkest.

They do, but he's 30 this October. I doubt they'll win a flag in his remaining years at the club. I will admit though they do have a number of impressive youngsters such as Redden and a couple of others.

Port. Brisbane are hopeless, but Ports problems are more mental which is more easily overcome than skills/ability. There are some Brisbane players playing games that should be in the QAFL at best.

The kids will stand taller when Brown comes back into the team and learn a lot from him.
Who can do that at Port at the moment?

I think Brisbane are closer, but you never know when a club is going to have a complete clean out, and re-build...

I think both clubs will need to do that, i.e. the Cornes boys won't be around for the next flag, just like Brown/Black/Power won't be there for the Lions...

Just depends which club flicks the switch first.

Brisbane are closer. They've already got a nucleus of a very good young midfield coming through and Hartlett and Boak aside I don't see that same quality coming through for Port. Also, the Brisbane youngsters have a better collection of older players to show them the ropes in Black, Power, Merrett and Brown.

Brisbane also has better size around the ground. Port are a mob of midgets, this is why Gold Coast got over them.

Pure guess work, you need alot of luck to win a flag look at some of the current premiership droughts in the AFL - Melbourne, Saints, Dogs, Tigers and until recently the Cats. This year aside Port or Brisbane may be closer to a flag than some of those sides we'll never know.

Port could be, although Brisbane wont be to far behind them.

Its easy to be an expert after the season, yet clearly last season Brisbane hit the trading week pretty hard and got in a group that they thought were very much capable of having a crack at the finals, it all fell apart and the quality of their list has depreciated since. Had it worked people would be congratulating them, yet its history now and they will have to rebuild in the usual way, with the luxury of a genuine home ground advantage which wont hurt them.

The reason I think Port are a better chance of winning the flag is simply the job they did on the Crows in the last showdown. Port have within their list the capability to win games, Primus was the choice that the heart said for the club, yet I am not sure if that matches what the head might say. One of the keys to being successful is not so much a good plan A or a good plan B, but the ability to innovate and be ahead of the curve as Sheedy and others were when they were at the top of their game. Put someone like that with their list and I do think they can turn it over quickly. Put someone like Malthouse over Primus as Director of Coaching and I do think the Power are every chance to have a crack at another GF, to get there though the finances need to be sorted out and that is where Brisbane who also lose on their stadium deal have something in common with Port.

I thought that after watching them V the Saints the week before, they have hope for sure .. Having said that I think all clubs should, no AFL club should be without hope regarding a portion of their list and the future as all possess good potential future players.

Brisbane, Port need to get their finances in order first. But still they do have some good young players, just need to keep playing them. Brisbane have a good crop of young players that are starting to look good. They should get there first win this week against he Gold Coast.

Brisbane.
Port have alot of players in the middle the haven't taken the next step. Thomas, Surjan, Ebert etc.. all these type of players..
They do have a bit of talent in Hartlett, Salopek, Boak, Gray, but they're injured alot, which doesn't help.
