BTW, don't give me the crap that it happens everywhere because there is no way it is more prevalent than it is at cows games.

What games are you going to mate. Very rarely seen it happen at the G. It's a much easier place to get out of even with a crowd of 70,000 + in attendance. Left at the end of the game and was at my hotel room on the other side of town in 25 minutes.

Most leave at 3/4 time. I really notice it cos i head out at 3/4 time for a durrie. All supporters do it but the worst I've seen was a few years back when Adelaide were killing the Bulldogs. Can't remember what year but it was Akermanis' first or second game with them. They were leaving in DROVES....I nearly got crushed in the rush to get out.

I think it is partly to do with the parking situation out at AAMI as well as habits people have slipped into to. I imagine similar may happen in Perth because Subiaco Oval is basically in suburbia almost. I don't know how anyone parks there at all ... it must be gridlocked for ages afterwards.

I think it's a common thing in the AFL, but far worse at Football Park. Power fans cant say they're better than Crows, was watching the game last week and the cameras panned around to show people walking out in droves.

It's so bloody hard to get out of the Footy Park carpark that people have just gotten into that culture of leaving early so they can get home within a couple of hours of the game ending, especially if the game looks over. They're all going to look stupid one day if a miracle 5 goal comeback happens in the dying minutes.

AO isn't going to be any better. It's too ingrained in the psyche of the Adelaide based AFL supporter.

I stay at Subiaco when I go to our Perth office about twice a year and the first time I stayed (next to the Victoria Hotel) I walked one block behind the apartments and there unexpectedly was the Subiaco Oval.

You're right about the clubs and pubs around there. It just always strikes me where in hell do people park? It seems surrounded by suburban streets.

After crows games the council gets out there an blocks of exits to force traffic back the bvld which is pack and by doing that they cause grid lock themselves. Where as at the MCG 90,000 people can disbrus within minutes. Thats the difference.

You may be onto something there. I don't like going to Footy Park because if you don't get it right (parking position, timing your escape, etc), you can be sitting in that car park for a long time. After one final we were in there for an hour, and there's no excuse for that. As you say, at the MCG there's a steady stream of traffic away from the ground. I love Adelaide, but there are some areas we just never seem to improve upon, no matter how many examples others set us. Mind you, having an efficient train service next to the MCG helps a lot as well.

You see them leaving the game 5 minutes early at AAMI

Yes, I have to admit I do get surprised to see people leaving with 5 minutes to go and the game still up for grabs, but to each their own. As I said, not everyone gets to leave the footy and head off home and put their feet up for the evening. It's a busy world out there.

Come on Hawker, are you trying to tell us you have NO understanding of the underlying tribalism that makes up our great game? By leaving early you are presenting a nice juicy gift to opposition fans and if you happen to be marketed as the '19th man' it's even more amusing. I reckon that leaving a game early is like leaving a Rock concert by one of your favourite acts just because the lead guitarist snorted too much coke and dropped a few bum notes. It must be deflating to see the '19th man' disappear out of the stadium as soon as you kick back to back goals for the first time in the match.

People aren't 'getting uptight' about people leaving early..they are quite rightly pissing themselves laughing at the frontrunning bandwagonners who are turning tail on their team so they can spend eleven less minutes on West Lakes Boulevard. If there is more to life than Footy why bother going in the first place? You can watch a couple of quarters on the box instead and miss the traffic entirely. After spending years reading the Advertiser it must be quite a shock for some of these blackbird 'fans' that there are other teams in the league and shock horror, they can actually play.

People have been leaving early for as long as I've been attending footy .. Interesting to note in the EPL it's a pretty common occurrence there too.

Unless a have an unavoidable engagement (which means Im leaving at a set time regardless of the score), I'll always stay til the end but that's my choice .. What others choose to do doesn't really affect me so why should it be an issue?

I've parked in West Perth a few times when driving, probably about a 20 minute walk but the traffic isn't horrific by the time I get to the car, so there's no point leaving early anyway. There are a couple of small carparks at Subi Oval, but they're mainly officials, VIPs, corporates etc.

Footy Park would be a different story if there was a train station at each end of the ground like Subi has.
