The Footy Show

Postby 200 Killer Wasps » Fri Mar 11, 2011 7:53 am

I am from country South Australia and sat down last night to watch the first instalment of The Footy Show for the 2011 season. By 'The Footy Show' Southern Cross Channel 9 mean the Rugby League Footy Show.

Therefore the South East, Riverland, Eyre Peninsula, Mid North and Yorke Peninsula now receive the Rugby League Footy Show every Thursday night.

It would seem by this that the AFL's jaunt into Greater Western Sydney has taken a hit.
I'm reading a book about anti-gravity. I can't put it down.

The 'Footy Show' is the biggest piece of 5hit in life. Seeing as it has hardly anything to do with Football I'd suggest that Andrew Demetriou would be rejoicing whenever that second rate Hey Hey It's Thursday doesn't get aired.

Football the better product but the Rugby Footy Show is the better TV show. Nothing to see here folks.

I am not a watcher of TFS, but I did watch it last night. Why do they have a panel of three current/former players? Last night they had Barry Hall, Campbell Brown, and Shane Crawford, and between them they took up about 1% of the show. We hardly heard from them. And why do they need two comperes?

So far as humorous content, I smirked a couple of times but the show was largely unfunny. Then they bring on that professional imbecile Bill Brownless

The show offers me nothing, and I doubt if I will watch it again in a hurry. I think the football public is ready for a good solid show that concentrates on football discussion rather than "Hey Hey it's Thursday" as REB puts it.

Sam Newman can be a wonderfully entertaining and thought provoking football annalyst, but we see far too little of it on TFS.

It's because SC take the channel 9 feed from Sydney. Hence the news each night at 6 is the Sydney bulletin too. The AFL edition followed it at 11.15. They will possibly switch and start taking Adelaide's 9 feed after Easter.

Pure rubbish this program. I'd rather watch the NRL Footy Show.

Normally love it.

Last night was woeful.

Sam Newman exposed himself as a fool in regards to depression.

He says people coming back from war might be depressed but not elite sports players who get paid squillions...

Ignorance at the highest level... not sure if i want to watch it again.

It's why there's an original thread for the Footy Show in the entertainment section of this forum - because that's all it is really entertainment - I quite enjoy the show and have watched for the whole 18 years - but yes thought Sam was a bit 'ignorant' perhaps last night.

When we lived in the NT we watched the NRL one as well - it was hillarious and very entertaining - the 'best of the NRL Footy Show' is absolutely hillarious !!

O:)

**Edit - however - I think 200KW intention for this thread was not about The Footy Show itself?

I enjoyed the show for the first couple of years but the incessant sledging of all things South Australian was to me offensive. Now as a Cat fan I am not your most one eyed SA footy fan so I can't imagine why Crows supporters in particular line up to watch that 5hit.

As for professional imbeciles though, don't single out Brownless because Crawford takes the cake. That's when I stopped watching what a tosser he is. Unfortunately there is a parade of imbeciles on this show.

As for Newman, anyone who scores cheap points off the intellectually challenged unfortunates who habitate suburban shopping malls earns nothing more than my unending contempt.

The Footy Show was essential viewing in its first four years or so - when football was still their primary focus. I stopped watching regularly years ago, after having to wade through ages of cheap jibes, what seemed like offcuts from the yearly talent night and as REB quite rightly said, a segment that focuses more on less advantaged people. The teams and club news itself ran a distant second or third.

REB, when Billy starts running 1000 km for breast cancer, I may number him along side Crawford, but until then, all Brownless has done since he retired is get fat and sponge off the media.

Agree A Mum, I watch it for Entertainment value. If you want to know about the teams, then AFL teams on Fox is a better product.

200KW point is correct though. I've said many times, Canberra folk can get Friday night footy live and we can't. Dunno what the AFL and broadcasters are up to but it gives me the eeby jeebies.

Look at it this way. Sam Newman was the only one with the guts to admit he knew stuff all about depressiuon, unlike others in the media who pretend to know all about it.

I know little about it, except I suffered a form of depression in the 1990s. It was caused through sleep deprivation and I was unable to function to the degree I couldn't walk down the street, let alone play football, visit nightclubs, go overseas, etc, which most of these guys claiming depression are still able to do. This is the part I don't understand.

Sam asked the so-called "ignorant" questions that are in the minds of many others, and we need them answered in order to understand. As it is, I've heard the comment many times that if a normal person stuffs up he goes to prison, if a celebrity stuffs up he checks into rehab and then takes a holiday overseas when it all blows over.

Ignorant? Maybe. But we shouldn't fall into the trap of assuming everything Fevola is telling us is the 100% truth either. Until we are better informed, it seems best to keep an open mind rather than take sides. People are saying now that Fevola's inability to decide against the Casino was proof of his depression. I say he was never all that bright to begin with, he's never listened nor learnt from others, and just maybe that's a bigger problem for him than depression.

Bingo. You could argue that consequences of the former have contributed greatly to the latter. It's a bit of a shame really. I reckon he could have been a bit like a Richo..the kind of player opposition fans love because he wears his heart on his sleeve so much and isn't a robot. But in the end you've got to learn to pull your head in at one stage.

The show has been around long enough now for people to realise its more football themed entertainment rather than a show to discuss footy at great depth. This argument comes along every year and everyone always says they wont watch it, but the show still rates so highly, and the GF footy show sells out in minutes, so they are doing something right.

I will not watch the show again until Sam Newman goes.

I don't mind all the others - even Eddie when he was host.
