Sydney Swans Season 2011

After another year of finals footy at the Swans, surely they are due to miss one....

This mob year after year just get the job done and make the finals, but surely they are due to miss one.

Unfortunately for Swans fans, this years I don't think they'll make it, they'll finish between 9-13.

John Longmire's first official game as Sydney Swans coach will be against Melbourne at the MCG on a Sunday afternoon in round one. The Swans have a home game against Essendon at ANZ Stadium the week after, before heading west to meet the Eagles at Patersons Stadium.

As in recent seasons, the Swans have three home games in ANZ Stadium in which they will do battle with the Bombers, Collingwood and St Kilda. They have eight home matches at the SCG, a number of which feature big-drawing Victorian clubs like Hawthorn and Richmond.

In round six, the Swans will host Carlton in their first Friday night home game at the SCG since 2003.

May not win the big stuff, but a huge watch to take the NAB Cup. Have drawn the weakest group possible, and suspect that John Longmire will want to make a big statement early after the club has taken it easy in this competition in past years.

Age is becoming a real issue for this list. Bradshaw 32, Goodes 31, the Boltons and O'Keefe all 30, Kennelly, Shaw 29, Mattner and Richards both 28. That's a lot of pretty fair players at the wrong end of their careers, but that may also act as a spur for them. Just seem to be missing a real x-factor in attack outside of McGlynn. 6th to 10th for mine.

I can see Kieren Jack having a break out season. He showed his solid possession winning ability in the last half of the year he was running riot. He has the ability to break a line with his pace, get the footy himself and tackle like his father 15 years ago. could shoulder some of the load for goodes/o'keefe to go up forward.

Kieran Jack, one of my favourite players. I think they will finish 6-10th also.

Just waiting for all the 'experts' to predict us to finish in the bottom half again. IMO we'll easily make 5th-8th and possibly push the top 4.
That depends on how the 2nd and 3rd year players go.. The likes of Rohan, Hannebery, Jetta etc.
Hoping McGlynn can fill the void left by Kirk's retirement..

Always tough to beat in Sydney, they usually win 8/9 or 11 and 4 or 5 wins around the place ( like over GC, WCE and Brisbane ) will se them make the 8. One club that has fantastic off field systems in place and I doubt they will miss the 8.

Always tough to beat in Sydney, they usually win 8/9 or 11 and 4 or 5 wins around the place ( like over GC, WCE and Brisbane ) will se them make the 8. One club that has fantastic off field systems in place and I doubt they will miss the 8.

As most people have already said, should make the 8. I will be disappointed if they don't. Have an excellent mix of youth and experience. Ruck department almost the strongest in the league. Always have a strong attacking defense. Plenty of footballers who are prepared to get the hard contested footy. Am confident that the forward line can improve with Goodes, White, McGlynn, Rohan, Dennis-Lane and Lewis Johnston who was selected #12 in the 2008 draft is hopefully ready for the AFL after 2 injury plagued seasons.

Even though Kirk seems irreplaceable, I thought the same thing after Paul Kelly retired. Kieran Jack (not McGlynn Pidge) looks as though he can fill those shoes. Swans have built a fantastic culture and will have more success sooner rather than later.

Swans are going along nice and quietly. Their next 4 games are all winnable.

Flying under the radar, they do what they have to and they go largely un-noticed intetstate. They should comfortably make finals and if they can nick a few away then a top 4 is not out of question

Roos did a fantastic job last year, making sure he left the club in the best possible position. I think Melbourne will be contacting both Roos and Malthouse to see they want to coach next year.

We beat Kangas with what was IMO our weakest team in the past 5 years.
The positive sign is that we have debuted 5 players this year and they are getting good game time. Being 5-1-3 with such a young team is a good sign for the future.
The likes of Jetta, Rohan, Dennis-Lane, Johsnon, Johnston, Parker, Hannebery, Reid, Gordon etc.. are the key to our future as players like Goodes, Bolton, O Keefe etc.. aren't going to be around for many more years.

Well done on a great career to Bradshaw... Certainly benefited from one of the better forward lines (Lynch, Brown, Bradshaw) and best midfields (Black, Hart, Akermanis, Power, Voss) in recent memory...
