2011 NAB Cup fixtures are out along with a new format and new teams

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx

Couple of issues I got are
- Seriously what are the AFL thinking with having GWS in it? They will get destroyed!
- Adelaide v Port & WCE v Freo yet again in a pre season game....Boring!
- I hope they don't expect a big crowd to the Crows/Port & Melbourne games because Adelaide United are playing Melbourne Victory that night at Adelaide Oval.

Guess they had to play GWS to keep an even number going with the new format, not too bad be interesting to have a look at them. Also teams generally in the past havent played full strength sides, instead opting to give opportunities to fringe players or young players so i would imagine they wouldnt be flogged that bad.

I too am sick of Adel/Pt always being matched up its been thrashed and i think the rivalry passion is fading because it happens so often!

Should be alright. Pre-season footy doesn't matter anyway, but should make a good spectacle for the fans.

Does this mean GWS will have a "composite" side?

They've only signed kids so far haven't they? Pardon my ignorance...

Why do we even bother having a Pre-season competition if its just going to be crap like this (2x20 min halves)? Lets have some trial games and get into it

Agreed. Could even be a 'carnival' type comp with all states over 2 or 3 weeks.

But then you interrupt every teams preparation for a 2 or 3 week period plus where would clubs be able to trial new/young/rookie players?

I think the new format is a good idea, the clubs wanted less trials and this was a way to make it happen. If its a shambles and doesn't work then who cares its just 1 week out of a pre season it's not like the 40 minute games are going to go on for weeks and weeks. I think watching 3 AFL standard games in 3 hours will be great.

WCE Vs Freo again

Growing a little old IMO.

2 Derbys is enough in a year.
