Adelaide 2011

Talk on the national game

Adelaide 2011

Postby Gingernuts » Fri Oct 15, 2010 10:54 am

Just thought I'd start a general thread for off-season discussion.

Starting with list finalisation. Article in the tiser today:

The one surprise for me is that Thompson got upgraded in favour of Schmidt. I thought Schmidt did more than enough to gain a senior spot.

I only saw Thompson in the SANFL Prelim Final, but I was super impressed with him .. Think there's a real prospect there.

Schmidt seemed to fall out of favour late in the season and it seemed like he and Davis were fighting for the same spot at time with Davis coming out in front by season's end.

When I saw Schmidt earlier in the year I was more impressed than I was with his later games.

I am excited by the young prospects we have coming through and I reckon Craig is the right coach to bring the young lads on.

Agreed i only saw Thompson in the final against sturt and thought he was a real star in the making. Can see why AFC rate him so highly. I think had a few injuries at the start of the year hence he went under the radar.

I can only see positives for AFC for season 2011 and beyond. We will need to stop the GWS raid however next year.

Blokes i cant wait to see more of:
Dangerfield in the middle
Martin in the guts/wing HBF
Henderson on the HHF or even off Half back
Otten off half back or a run in the guts
Sloan across HF to apply pressure and kick a few also in the guts

Due to injury hampered pre season/year id expect big returns from:
Porplyzia
Vince
Tippett
Mckay
VB

Missed this bloke dearly this year. It will be a huge relief to have back in the side (providing his recovery and pre-season has no hiccups! :ympray: )

Agreed. Thompson was very solid during the H&A season, but took his game to another level in the finals. Great athleticism, strong mark, and provides a lot of rebound. Going to be a very good player, great rookie get by the AFC.

My changes are in red. I don't think Sauce Jacobs will get the number 1 spot straight away (will have to earn it). Douglas is a forward/ midfielder, with otten coming back they will keep Stevens (as much as he can be frustrating) there to keep some experience. If not Stevens then I think Symes would come in from the HB line. IMO :D

I can't see Stevens not being the Sub, unless he is picked in the starting team out of necessity.
He is the most versatile fill in man forward or back, and that should keep him in the squad a season or two longer.

Reckon you're pretty well on the money there Pat. That's the ideal of course, injury will see those you listed 'on the cusp' still in the side fairly regularly.

Hopefully, there is some solid work going into developing Taylor Walker's skills and decision making over the off season.
He has enormous potential, and just hasn't performed flexibly and consistently enough.
He'll need to improve, and be less one dimensional in style, to be a success in a key position.
