Matty Primus

SURELY......the club can & should look no further.

Primus........apparently an extremely smart football brain, has the players' support, has a marketable persona, has them playing good attacking footy...........

Alan Richardson - assistant coach at a dud club who have been coached poorly, so what can he really offer? His resume is still pretty thin.

Scott.......only been involved in a successful club for one season in a coaching capacity. Freo were crap last year.....

McCartney..........who?

I'm all for Matty Primus.
But why shouldn't the club look at all their options? In fact if they weren't looking at every available option, they'd be extremely negligent.

Fair enough too X Runna, primus has been very impressive since being at the helm, but i wouldnt discount mccartney, purely for the environment he has been around in the past 5 years.

Im not saying by any means that port have the cattle that geelong do to become premiership contenders, but if primus does end up getting the head coaching role, i would make a strong play to get mccartney in an assistant coaching role.....using the inside knowledge from geelong can only benefit port in going forward imo.

alan richardson may end up getting the essendon gig and chris scott hasnt had enough experience to warrant a senior role...

Let's not get too carried away.

Matty's successful late-season tenure has to be tempered by our favourable draw.

We beat four sides roughly in the same situation as us: Melbourne, Richmond, Adelaide and West Coast.

And another really not too far ahead that we match-up well against: Hawthorn.

Great to finish off another disappointing year with a few wins.

But convincing enough to appoint Primus?

:-k

i thought it was about the way we played and how uncomplicated the game became for the players, i will never forget the game against richmond in the wet at aami and chad cornes had the ball at half forward at his option was to kick it wide to the boundry not to the goal front in alow scoring game something was wrong then. We now go direct and long and used the marking targets to bring the ball forward to our crumbing players.

That surely has to be the right approach ... Look at all options and unless there is a clear standout, then you already have the man for the job.

Whilst I know they were wins for the club (that might have been losses previously), there would still be some question marks over the manner in which they beat WCE and Richmond.

I honestly think Port would be best served by someone that doesn't have any attachment or affiliation to the current regime as Matty does, but Port as a club have been true to their spirit/creed for 100+ years and it's always served them pretty well, so it's hard to argue against if they head down the MP path.

i thought the richmond was a cracker and yes they tigers came back at us but that was because they go their hands on the footy first during that period it was a real open attacking game and when the tigers were playing well it wasnt due to us playing a poor brand of footy they were just playing better. i would rather see that then us chip around turn it over and loose confidence and go backwards.

Very fair point mate, and the area you've touched on given it was such a concerning issue for a little while, might be all the improvement they needed to display under Matty.

You could apply that same logic to Primus.

Difference is twofold
1> Knights is a worse coach than Choco and.....
2> Primus is handling himself very well........

He rates Primus very highly, and he reckons Primus has introduced a new system, that he refused to say, that has the players up and about.

He was certainly a great leader on the field, and let's face it, they could use a player with Norwood blood at the helm.
5 from 7 is a great effort after 8 losses on the trot.

Are you serious? Norwood blood... That's probably the least successful SANFL club other than South in the past 25 years - Why would any AFL club want a coach with Norwood blood????
If you don’t like my words, don’t listen. If you don’t like my appearance, don’t look. If you don’t like my actions, turn your head; It’s as simple as that.
