I dont think this will be a justification of his addiction, i think its an insight into what made Ben Cousins turn from idol/superstar to drug addict to then recapturing control of his life and a return to football. If anything, it may prove a good educational tool for people who may one day be in a simalar situation.

Ben Cousins similar to Aker will be remembered for other things than his footballing ability/achievements. But what he can add to that memory is the fact that he came back and kept clean once he finishes.

I not sure I'm convinced that is the case given his recent medical crises - I suspect he may have just changed drugs.
That is why I am sceptical about the presentation and expect it to be fictionalised.

Yes there is still doubt over his future but then again his recent incident is probably a reasonably common occurance throughout society with the increased use of sleeping tablets and self medicators.

I dont judge him for taking a sleeping pill and or having a few glasses of wine and its unfair for others to judge him on this because purely because he plays AFL. Ive seen him at richmond show great leadership to the younger players and certainly not disgrace himself with his performances on the field.

If the documentary is as confronting as they are saying it is, i cant see how it can be fictionalised.

It appears the pattern becoming common and tolerated in AFL circles is caffeine "uppers" and alcohol and sleeping pill "downers" to sleep.
Caffeine is just a milder substitute for amphetamines and has similar effects in high enough doses.
It appears the pattern of drug abusing behaviour is still there and is still being condoned by the AFL.
They pay lip service to cleaning things up and players use drugs not being tested for.
The idea that caffeine is harmless is false, and that false idea is supported by the addictive levels allowed in popular soft drinks.

Cocaine and amphetamines can be safe used at low enough levels, and if the dose is not gradually increased.
But the problem is people develop physiological tolerance to them, and up the dose as they find the effect they want diminishes.
Since the effect is seductive, and people slowly become addicted as the dose increases, the pattern has to be stopped early, not ignored and its proponents idolised until it is widespread in the group.

Each to his own. Even people who know nothing should know that. Ben Cousins is the most overexposed person in football today and I find him shallow and very dull.

I find him refreshing and energetic to the game! He has Been an
absolute superstar of our game and the work he is doing with the youngsters at Richmond has been great!! We will see the rewards when his apprentice Dustin Martin comes through in the next couple of years!
This doco is going to be very good and very informative IMO! Although I'm sure it's only a chance of bein shown in grand final week but Cousins himself has said he doesn't want it shown then because thats the holy week in football where it should be entirely football based!!

Fancy you rushing to Cuzzy's defence just cos he's wearing a Tiggers jumper CK. Your club will do the right thing and delist him next summer. Let Hardwick do the mentoring, that's his job.

maybe the doco will give you a better insight to the real ben cousins, not whats splashed around in the media.. Your generation have lost touch with reality.. judge him after you watch. REB do you know anything about addiction?
