A report in the tiser today saying he wants a 3 year deal, amongst rumours he's off to the Gold Coast next year. I wasn't convinced by his press conference yesterday either.
Strangely enough though the prospect of him leaving for the Gold Coast doesn't worry me as much as it did 6 months ago with the emergence of several other young quality defenders.
Don't get me wrong, he is a quality player and would be a great loss if he went - but I feel that with Davis, Schmidt and Otten in the queue for roles off half back I reckon we could cover him.

I reckon nathan Bock will stay at Adelaide so there is no need to worry. The reasons i believe why he will stay is that he is a adelaide born person so all his family live here along with his friends football and non football, he is guaranteed a starting line up, he is palying in a side who regularly play in finals series and if he Decides to go to the gold Coast he might play for 3-4 years but missed out on playing in finals series in the first 2-3years as they build they team upwards so in terms of football success he is better off staying in adelaide it is more likely based on what has happened in the past.

I think a 3 year deal give his injury problems is a bit of a risk. Comfortable with 2, but 3 might be pushing it.
We've got Davis, Young, Talia and Thompson as developing backmen, re-signing Bock would be nice but no longer essential IMO.

I too agree with aceman. if he does leave we have the young guys who have already shown promise and that they can fill that hole. and another positive is that it could potentially free up a bit more money under the cap just in case we do have the opportunity to pull a rabbit out of a hat somewhere.

I agree that there isn't as much urgency surrounding his signature as there was 12+ weeks ago .. Although IF he were to remain relatively healthy, he would provide so much more drive from the back half than anyone else who replaces him could within the next couple of years IMHO.
Adelaide are a much better team when Bock is up and about.

He has been our best answer to keeping Franklin accountable too.

It makes sense now why they dropped Davis.
Craigy is showing his hand saying that 'yes we do need you, and yes you are our number one backman'.
If they kept him out the side the decision woyuld have been easy for him to go.

Still doesn't explain why Davis got the chop for Stevens .. Not much future in that decision, but I digress ...

What, we can't afford to lose him, I mean he kept superstar Westhoff to 4 goals.

Neither Bock nor Tippett justified their place against Port, and I'd wonder about a 3 year contract for Bock being justified, given his injuries lately, and the up and coming defenders on hand.
Tippett did have the excuse of having been doubtful with the 'flu before the match, and he probably should have been rested.

Now what do we get for him. I would think with a bit of negotiation we would get a high first rounder. All Australian, CHB do not grow on trees. Going to be interesting

I thought the AFL was going to compensate by giving a club a first round draft pick?

The more I think about this today, the more I have a good feeling about it. It has put us in an excellent position to pull off a big trade this October for someone younger and less injury prone.

You are right mate but they will decide what one we get
