Mr Rucci wrote a very interesting article about Adelaide supporters yesterday. I missed it but read it on the web this morning and I have to say I tend to agree with most of his observations:

Sadly much of the supporter base is doing nothing for the external image of stereotypical Adelaide supporter at the moment - a spoilt, fairweather supporter who revels in the good times but does the phantom or turns coat on their club during the bad.

At the Carlton game a couple of weeks back there were arguements between supporters springing up around us, and one silly bird in the front row turned her back on the game and declared to everyone that she was better off watching the crowd. Add to that calls to sack club legends and the coach, abusing your own team and players, it's all very poor form.

It is fair to say that the Adelaide supporter base needs to harden up. The reality is the club is in a good, strong place at the moment. We have a strong administration with plenty of cash coming into the coffers, we have a huge membership base, we have a very capable coach with the best win/loss ratio in the comp, and we have a talented (all beit a tad raw) list. Yea the on field results this year haven't been great, but that's life.

Here's hoping the true, not the toxic, Adelaide supporters will be out in force this weekend to urge their side to the first win of the season.

Absolutely spot on mate. This site is as good as an example as any of the immature and unrealistic attitudes of some supporters.

Fairly tame actually compared to the hysterics of the some of the 'tards on Big Footy though.

A work colleague ( recently relocated from Melbourne ) and a Carlton supporter went to the game and was amazed at the infighting. Told him that was normal practice.

Was he meaning the spectators or senior players ?

Having seen many Crows games, Port games and games in Melbourne the main difference for me is that Crows fans will bag their own more frequently than other supporters who will bag the opposition more. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact (or my assumption) that a larger % of Crows fans haven't grown up supporting the game, their club or another club and haven't developed the patience required to deal with indifferent results for a sustained period of time.

I agree with you there Zorro. Add to that the fact that 97 & 98 seemed so easy at the time. In the comp for 7 years and Adelaide was lining up for back to back flags. Made the 'new' supporter base of a new side expect those kind of results every year.
