The single biggest question mark over the Tigers is where on earth they will regularly kick winning scores above 14 goals from. There really doesn't seem to be many options, unless they can afford to leave Deledio in the forward 50 for extended periods, which robs them of centre clearances. The wildcard may be Cousins up there, but can't see him regularly kicking more than three a game, even if he spends the whole game in the 50. Would need Jack Riewoldt and Mitch Morton to kick over 50 apiece to be any sort of show, and that looks a bridge too far

Rucks look thin, some good kids coming through but are a few years away from their peak, and too many underachievers. Richard Tambling's breakout year is still yet to come and in all honesty, may not ever arrive unless he really puts the skates on soon.

HOF, I think they'll finish between 15th and 17th.

Major major rebuild on the cards and hopefully the club actually sticks with the bloke. Given their recent history it'd be easy to chuck the baby out with the bathwater.

even though Richard Tambling got dropped early last year once he returned, he had a cracking year in a carp side. He was really good for the tigers last year and had some outstanding games. I think last year was a breakout year where he was a senior player. Now, this year, he will be looking to build on that and push for the a permanent spot in the back flank rotating thru the midfield.

IMO we have a great midfield in Cousins, Cotchin (pre-season under his belt), Deledio, Tambling, Jackson, Foley, Tuck, Hislop, White and Martin now aswell. If we can get a couple more young fellas such as Rance to step as an option for a rotating midfielder our midfield could keep us out of the bottom 4. Vickery, Simmonds, Riewoldt, Morton, Nahas and Jayden Post are the main players that will kick goals i would think. We have 3 good tall defenders in Moore, Thursfield and McGuane with our small defenders being Chris Newman, Rance, Connors and Edwards (i think he will play the running back this year) ...

It does at the moment, but I believe its a good start with Jack Riewolt and Mitch Morton down there. Both have shown they can play and have the ability to be a forward target. Of course there not going to turn the world on its head this season, but they dont look horrible up forward, espically if Deldeio spends time up there as well, which he might.

Rucks are very thin, Vickery is a good young talent but raw as sushi. Midfield will be caught chasing all year, they will struggle to get there hands on the ball first.
Down back looks thin. Can't see them being able to stop any team with geniune power forwards at all.

Tip: 14th - 16th (Another tough year at tiger land)

P.S at least now they are looking like they have a plan for the future. They will show some good glimp's this season.

great kid, known him since he was a little tacker and taught him all he knows about basketball (sort of!)

I like the balance of our back half, decent mix of youth and experience in the midfield, but it's the forward line that will struggle. Jack Riewoldt and Mitch Morton are not genuine key forwards, and until Post and Vickery start to mature into good players in 3-4 years time this will continue to be our biggest problem.

We will finish in the bottom four along with Fremantle, Melbourne and North Melbourne. Another year of looking for positives in some young kids.

MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER
Brett Deledio. It's not because he's flashy, but because the Tigers are a better team when he's playing well. Deledio has won the last two best and fairest awards at Richmond, and topped the possession count last year. He's working hard to become an attacking midfielder who can also defend when needed.

UP AND COMER
Dustin Martin, the third pick overall in last year's draft, showed in the NAB Cup opener he's ready to go. Playing against Hawthorn in Launceston, Martin was at his best early when the game was at its hottest. He tired later but still finished with the most possessions for the Tigers.

NEEDS A BIG YEAR
Jordan McMahon is entering the final season of a three-year deal struck by former coach Terry Wallace. Drafted by the Western Bulldogs with the 10th pick in the 2000 draft, McMahon has never lived up to the promise. With a new coaching crew that values good decision-making and kicking very highly, the 26-year-old will have to make significant improvements to ensure his future at Punt Road.

CHANGING TACK
If the Tigers have learned anything from 2009, it's to not get too far ahead of themselves. Tipped to make the top eight last year, they only finished ahead of Melbourne. New coach Damien Hardwick has promised a simplified game plan, which is a positive step with a team as youthful as the Tigers. The basic team structure remains the same, with the key defenders and forwards remaining, but the injection of Dustin Martin and a fit Trent Cotchin and Nathan Foley into the middle will help considerably. Jake King has spent the summer training with the forwards, and watch for David Astbury and Ben Griffiths to be given AFL time up there.

CRYSTAL BALL
This year is going to be tough for Richmond supporters, but on the upside, they're used to it. A horror 2009 saw a new coach and a clean-out of the list, with 14 new players added. The Tigers are favourites to take out the wooden spoon so, once again, supporters will have to look to the development of the kids.

After what I saw last night - Richmond will be lucky to win a game this year.

Carlton aren't anything flash at all - I think we'll finish 9-11th, we have a disfunctional forward line and not a great backline but we were made to look quite good.

If Richmond had actually finished off their work in the second quarter, then they could've been close if not in front at half time and anything could've happened from there.

Given that they may have a horrible year, at least they are on the right track by offloading a heap of ordinary mid range players in the off season and rebuilding, albeit again.

Only really have 3-5 decent AFL standard players- Cousins, Deledio and Foley. Maybe throw Jackson in there too.
Its daylight between them and the rest of their squad.

You'd think with Gold Coast and West Sydney coming in over the next few yrs and all the draft advantages they'll have, it's going to be a lean decade for clubs like Richmond.

I agree mate. What about the commentators pencilling your blokes into the eight on the strength of that game? Carlton have plenty of work to do but clearly they have a lot more to work with than the Tigers.
