Typical Port Adelaide of Old today

The signs were very good, hard at the body like Port haven't been for years - the intensity was fantastic.

Also proved the Port game plan for years under Fos & Jack wasn't so bad - move it forward and get it into the scoring zone as quick as you can no matter what it looks like........

Guernseys?, Laidley?, Hocking?, Jan & Jenny? - don't know what it was, maybe even the Magpie thing, BUT, it was the type of footy us Port supporters expect..

I know it's only early, but if they continue with that endeavour and willingness to take a risk - 2010 won't be the ordinary year a lot of pundits are forecasting.

Some good signs Runna, its a little early to think we've definitely turned the corner after one match, but it will certainly give the fans a bit of hope.

With a bit of luck the club will be playing a similar style of attacking and aggressive football right throughout the year. No fadeouts would be handy too.

X Runna, I think what REB was eluding to is similar to my thoughts of this ridiculous comp. Let me explain - Carlton won two pre season comps and finished almost last in both years. Take NOTHING from pre season. Most coaches don't care about the comp, therefore winning easily against a team pitting themselves for a tilt at a top four position means that you could be (more than likely will be) dealt false hope.

Spot on ... the AFL have real trouble working out the difference between looking after the game (& therefore the teams) and making money to the detriment of everything else.

I agree wholeheartedly with what you say about the competition BUT - there was something different today and that is all I am saying.....

They played HARD defensive/pressure football when they didn't have the ball, and they didn't f**k around waiting for the perfect entry into the forward line as they have for the past few years.

We all know they do have the ability and the skills, it's just the mindset, determination & gameplan that have been lacking - today those signs were there and it was reminiscent of the Old Port Adelaide way........<note from moderators - lets move on now>

I agree with the Mods, this is a circular conversation - no winners. Just beware, cos if my team won that easily I'd be even MORE wary of what an opposition would pose if they were taking it seriously. Hence I don't bet on pre season cup games.

Never got to celebrating past premierships mate, simply Norwood haven't given a yelp for a while either.........

My original post was in recognising the Power showed something today they haven't for quite some time and at this stage it is paying dividends. A proper response by REB saying what he is now alleging he meant - would have meant this thread go on in the way it was intended..where people could have commented constructively on what they saw and didn't see today.
