The Thing that would not Leave!

Some Saturday Night Live fans might recall the John Belushi skit 'The Thing that would not Leave'. Belushi would excel as the overbearing house guest that outstayed his welcome and much comedy ensued. It is a similar situation at the Carlton Football Club who have provided many comedic moments during the off-season.

The smartest President in the AFL, Steve Kernahan is displaying his committment to recycling.....by luring old Crony Jack Elliot back to the Bluebaggers? The very same Jack Elliot who wasn't even on speaking terms with Sticks a few short weeks back?
Sure, they were 'only having lunch' but you wouldn't put it past Carlton to let Jack back in...he is Carlton's THING THAT WOULD NOT LEAVE.

Surely they won't???

Let's hope so.
He could lecture the Carlton boys on 'drinking and moderation' and 'social etiquette'.

....pigs arse!!! ;)
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Clear evidence that Kernahan is not up to the task.

Ah but, Elliot may be an unwanted guest in the eyes of Carlton supporters, but the club, and the people that run it worship Elliot.

Sheedy would also fit in this category at Essendon as he outstayed his welcome but the club didn't have the guts to get rid of him

Not sure about that but they must be wary of Elliot being involved in any capacity. During his time there the club had a lot of success of which he was involved in directly. However, he will always be remembered as the bloke that stuffed up and the club suffered for it.
Now it is a new era with an exciting list that is young and will be competitive for a number of seasons to come. As a club member I would be disappointed if the club had any involvement with Elliott again, seriously what has he got to offer?

Your last sentence supports my assertion.

The president sets the compass for the club. David Smorgon, Frank Costa and, dare I say, Eddie McGuire lead the way in this respect.

But I don't reckon he will be involved in any way. Kernahan inherited the role due to circumstances out of his control. Time will tell about his success or not. Its premature to say otherwise..

If anyone knew the Kernahan family and their values you wouldn't be surprised by this. Given the help Elliot provided Stephen Kernahan in getting him a job at the Stock Exchange and then advising him on business opportunities to set him up finacially through his footy career (remember not all of Elliots business decisions were dodgy), Sticks wouldn't care to nobs of goat sh!t what the court of public opinon sthought if it meant helping an old friend re-connect with something he loves.

Harry wouldn't kick his arse from here to kingdom come if Stephen didn't remember a mate and what he had done for him and when the opportunity came didn't look out for him and help him in return.
