i believe brisbane have been fantastic this week (trade week) in securing the services of some fantastic SHORT TERM players they have set them selfs up for a flag in the next 1 to 3 years but after that well who knows and with the gold coast coming in and compromsed drafts etc etc then west sydney have they done the right thing? is short term succuss better than the overall picture???

i'm up in the air on this topic be interesting to see some discussion on this topic

Vossy is going to have a hell of a job getting the list back together as over a quarter of the list is going to be new players and sounds like most of the list was offered up for trade, going to be some issues in getting them all heading in the same direction

Got a feeling they are angling for a flag in the next 2-3 years to try and not lose any support to the Gold Coast franchise which is a significant threat to their supporter base which they have taken years to establish

Overall I would rate it a very productive week for us at the trade table. I believe we've come out in front in terms of what we've had to give up to get the players we did.

We already struck gold with Daniel Rich in last years draft so I think it was worth sacrificing a first-round pick this year to snare a genuine star of the competition in Brendon Fevola.

Also, Amon Buchanan and Brent Staker, whilst not superstars, are very capable players. Michael Voss has promised Staker a specific role instead of having different assignments from one week to the next like he did at West Coast. This could be the key to releasing his full potential.

And if he stay's fit, Andrew Raines could be a handy acquisition too.

Don't reckon that they will win a flag with these players athough they will be servicable towards being in the finals. Each player they traded for is average except for Fev who has his own set of problems to deal with. I would expect the Lions to finish in a similar position as this year.

Buchanon is good value and Raines is very good value if he can get his body right. Which of cousre is a big risk in itself.
Fev is a great player on the field, you cant take that away from him no matter how much of a dickhead he is.
But Staker is only serviceable.

I feel Brisbane can, if the are all heading in the same direction, can place in the top 4 next year.

Collingwood will be hard to be as well, Good ruck combination with them getting Jolly. This means Fraser can push forward with Wood a backup ruckman. They are now starting to look that bit more imposing up forward.

Apparently Bradshaw hasn't signed with Brisbane yet, and is considering walking and nominating for the PSD....

I wonder if the club have thought through the culture/morale impact of all this horse trading and now delistings?

I wonder how someone like Bradshaw can look at his coach and club the same way after he's been pressured to leave all trade week? Joel MacDonald and Hooper can't be traded so now they are simply cut! How will 2010's fringe players feel about their job security when the season ends?

Allegedly some clubs choose not to throw names around at trade week unless the player has specifically asked to be traded out.

Who's right? Time will tell.

Cutting Joel McDonald to replace him with Raines? They've got no small forwards so they recruit Fevola and cut Hooper? Gold Coast have em spooked for sure.

Hooper can play, thats for sure! But he clearly doesnt have the motivation to play at the highest level. This bloke has skipped preseason before, been fined $40 000 for continually breaching his contract, in not rocking up to trainings and so forth. I understand his delisting.

I however, do not understand Joel Macdonalds at all. This bloke can play, no idea why they got rid of him.

Surprising that Travis Johnstone survived the purge.
Voss must have kept him simply for midfield depth.

We'll see. Can't write teams off when the season is 6 months away.

It'll be even more messy if the AFL suspend Fev. Anderson is threatening to do so if the woman at the centre of the alleged sexual assault on Brownlow night makes an official complaint.
