Well done to Rich.

But in all honesty the award means not as much as i first thought.

Looking at Tayte Pears getting 4 votes from James Hird (suprise suprise essendon relation) and Adrian Anderson is a joke.

Andy Otten has clearly been the second best rookie by a absolute stretch.

Cant believe otten didnt receive 9 x 4 votes.

I couldnt agree more...

But then again, Dangerfield got votes from ROO so guess it evens up? Sort of...

I thought about it more and we see alot more of Ottens than we do Essendon so you'd like to think the opinion across the border isnt with goggles on and they look at the whole picture.

Great effort by Ottens still though...

Pears is the only one on that list that plays on the best key forwards every week because Fletcher never does, Otten takes the third defender. Not saying Otten shouldn't have finished second, but Pears has done some outstanding big jobs for a first year player. Made the Coleman Medallist look terrible, and he kicked five on Rutten last week.

Rich won the award for being so consistent in his debut year but I reckon that history will eventually judge that Hurley is the pick of the class of 2009.

I don't think you could put all of Fev's goals down to Rutten, I'm sure at least one was on Stevens.
And Fev is the sort of guy that beats himself, when Fev is on, SPC would be interested because he would CRUSH Pears.

Have you watched much of Pears this year CK? Had a very very good year and IMO was worthy of finishing close to Otten.

Thoroughly deserved by Rich, was clearly the best performed youngster this season. Will be interesting to see if he goes on to have the best career from this year's class. He'll go close, a super talent.

Honestly i have watched a fair chunk of essendons games. I would say probably 16 of them over the year.
DOnt get me wrong, Pears has a good year, and is going to be a good player, but i think it is just a joke because for mine, i think Otten has been sensational. He is playing on the third tall (yes the crows have bock and rutten) but its also because they get so much out of his run and carry. Yet he still defends well.

Pears has done some great jobs, however over the year, i think Otten is well clear.

REB i agree with you, that Hurley looks to be a star in the making. Round one towered up tredders and jeeze he looks good up forward aswell.
