AFL GRAND FINAL IN DOUBT

Postby wycbloods » Mon Aug 31, 2009 1:41 pm

This poses a real threat to not only the AFL GF but also many things across the state of Victoria. There will be lots of pressure on the company to continue to negotiate with the union and its members or risk some real public backlash.

Good on them i say this is the time they are in their strongest position so make the most of it guys. Some of the wages these guys and girls get for what they do are disgusting. Don't think too many of us would do that sort of work for $16.12.

Absolutely, surely $20+ an hour is not too much to ask when doing what I imagine would be a testing and difficult job. Imagine a Collingwood vs Power grand final...you couldnt pay me enough.

After seeing first hand at last year's grand final what sort of job they do I can safely say the AFL could get some trained monkeys in to do a better job for only the cost of some peanuts.

It isn't the AFL that employs these people Wedgie  .

I am sure you would ask for their help, or the police's if you were feeling threatened by other spectators at the game. No doubt they are not all great at what they do, as in most workplaces, but no need to put them all in the same basket it isn't fair on the good ones.

Yeah I know the AFL doesn't employ them, but they do give the contract to MSS and if MSS couldn't uphold the contract the AFL could look to the monkey enclosures if they wish.
You're damn tooting I'd look for the cops if I had a problem as its useless going to the MSS guards like I did last year.
You are right though, it is unfair to tar them all with the same brush, I'm sure there are some who do a decent job who were nowhere near us on GF day. :(
From what I saw I'd prefer Weslo!

I am sure there is plenty of protections for both sides in regards to upholding the contract between the two parties. I am also confident that strike action would not be seen as a reason to break a contract on either end.

I am sure you were only near a very small percentage of the security staff on GF day, maybe the result had more to do with your dealings with security last year  ;) .

Yes, I was in my allocated area unlike some others wearing Brown and Gold. Security didn't like it when I threatened to take security into my own hands if they didn't. I think they were worried I'd demonstrate to the AFL how to do a better job. ;)
Unfortunately a pre requisite for the MSS security that were there that day wasn't common sense. It should be the first and foremost requirement IMHO but hey, that's the same with most things in life these days. :?

I saw an incident on Saturday at the Carlton v Adelaide match at the Dome where it took 4 ACG Security guards to haul off some swarthy looking guy who had an authentic mad stare about him (didn't see the cause of the incident). Different firm, but I thought their actions were worth $20 per hour.
