Contracts

Looking through pg. 107 of the Advertiser I was amazed at some of the contracts the Power has handed out over the last 12 months. Mainly Ebert, Westhoff x 2 until 2011 and Rodan and Chaplin until 2012! Even Josh Carr and Paul Stewart for 2 years? Some of these blokes must surely be year to year propositions! am I wrong Port fans?

Chaplin is a no brainer and Im happy with his long term deal and although not with the same confidence the Rodan deal is ok.

Ebert has been in poor form this season but people quickly forget he can actually play and Im sure he signed before his form slump, both the Westhoff's are ok too so Im happy enough with that. I expect Stewart to cement a spot in 2010 so thats ok but as for the Carr signing I guess if we wanted him for 09 his managment would have wanted 2010 included and I doubt he would have moved back to Adelaide for the one season. That one is a stinker, as I have said elsewhere he will be getting more to play for the Bays than half of their squad put together next year...

i agree with the boon-dogg about chaplin. IMO he (and carlile for that matter!) is probably 2 seasons away from being spoken about as a great defender in the same breath as rutten. if these two guys keep improving the way they have been, they could easily be the best defensive big-guy-two-some in the league. and with a few teams having a couple great tall forwards (roughy/buddy, brown/bradshaw and to a lesser extent t.cloke/jack anthony), having two great tall defenders could be priceless.

ebert is a funny one. i've always rated him, and have said that if he was six inches taller, i rekon he would have been an elite medium sized forward. hopefully for port, this season was justa bump in the road for him, and he can return to his best next year and from then on.

I see a little bit of danger in signing a guy like Rodan who has already had a knee reco especially for 3 years. That's a long time in footy these days and it would seem only the top echelon of players get deals like that. Am I off the mark ?

How bad is Thurstan's calf?? Will he be held back from SANFL finals now to get it right for a big pre-season??

Or will it be a case of mate you're not in our next premiership team (whenever that may be :D ) so thanks for the good times....

Will he then hold himself back to make him attractive to another club but would he realistically be picked up at 29-30???

You'd think Rodan would be safe ... Id imagine the Power are using the last game to get an extra look at players that have either been fringe this year, that they are undecided about, or that they'd hope to increase any potential trade value in.

In a series of coaching developments yesterday it also emerged that:

■ Embattled Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams has yet to sign or even sight his completed two-year contract.

Yeah, it's one last chance to look at other players.

They'd be doing a pretty big clean out if they sacked Rodan. He's had a disappointing year but you'd think he's still in their best 22 when in form.

A pretty big contractual pay out too (3 years worth).
