P. Burgoyne retiring and Brendon Lade

Postby Voice » Tue Aug 25, 2009 11:41 pm

Fox Sports just had a story on the impending retirement of Peter Burgoyne. Apparently he's going to announce it wednesday morning.

Didn't seem to have much choice, did he?

Good to see he has realised his time was up. He just didn't see interested this year.

Was a very good player at his peak, evasive skills that were second to none, which was very frustrating because he never got caught with the pill.

Jeez I hate Port, but congratulations to both for their service over the years and best of luck in their farewell match.

Both have had to conquer demons in their careers ... Burgoyne copped a lot of criticism in the so called choking years of 2001-2003 but has proved his worth since then (until very recently), while Lade has made an amazing comeback from 2 broken legs to be one of the dominant ruckmen of the league.

Lade especially will be very hard to replace.

Played one too many years, his reputation has taken a big hit this year unfortunately. Sad thing is that I reckon he has still got what it takes, but clearly his heart isnt where it needed to be.

Hope Ladey comes back and plays a couple of years with the Panthers..... ;)

Both great players for the club.

Still reakon Burger should've got the Norm Smith in '04...

I wonder where Lade will end up next year as a ruck coach?

Agree with Peter Burgoyne should have won the Norm Smith, However the last two seasons he has looked disinterested and his retirement is overdue. At his best he was awesome.

No doubt.

He was absolutely brilliant in '07 off the half-back flank, unlucky not to win AA honours.

Which made his sudden decline all the more remarkable...

2 legends of the club. It was a pleasure to have had the opportunity to watch these 2 blokes over the years.
