Ideal side come finals

Postby NFC » Mon Aug 17, 2009 12:52 am

FB: Johncock, Rutten, Doughty
CHB: McLeod, Bock, Stevens
C: Vince, Thompson, van Berlo
CHF: Knights, Tippett, Burton
FF: Porplyzia, Hentschel, Dangerfield
1R: Maric, Edwards, Goodwin
INT: Moran/Sellar, Mackay, Otten, Reilly

So basically from Friday's game:

In: Bock, Dangerfield, Mackay, Burton (Moran)
Out: Symes, Sloane, Douglas, Shirley (Sellar)

Big question obviously on whether Trent can stand up, if he can't our forward line still looks dangerous but I like having Trent long to bomb the ball to because of his arial strength. It's weird having Hentschel named in the side again, seems like an eternity since he's been a regular. Fingers crossed he can stand up.

my only worries (if i liked the crows!) would be having tippett anywhere else but FF or ruck, and the lack of options the ruckmen can offer around the ground.

Wouldn't be surprised if Griffin came in for Sellsy (pending Moran).....

I don't rate Griffin at all but yeah, I expect him to come in for Sellar. Moran won't be ready unfortunately and he's the type of player that needs a few weeks anyway.

Sounds like Bock is up against it too. :(

Bock won't play again this season but Stevens covers him down back.
McLeod to move to the midfield come finals...he hasn't worked much throughout the year so should be fresh

Sellar was pretty good Friday night. He did a lot of hard work off the ball, I particularly like how he doesn't give up a chase even though he may be chasing a zippy midfielder or small forward. My opinion of him is growing, and I would suggest Craigy would be reasonably happy too. I don't think he'll be going anywhere for the rest of the season, I can't see them unsettling the side and dropping him for an underdone Moran or Griffin come finals time.

I cringe any time Sellar goes near the ball. His work ethic is exceptional, but his talent is non-existant.

Sellar didn't look bad in the bits of last weekend match I saw on TV replays.
He seems to be developing.

Yep, seeing him live last week gave me a much higher opinion of the lad. He does a lot that you don't see on TV.

He also makes good space and provides an option. A lot of ruckmen just get to the ruck contest, or fill 'the hole' down back, but Sellar actually puts himself in places through the middle where he can be part of moving the ball forward.

Doesn't deserved to be dropped IMO, offers more than Moran would if he came in after a 10 week layoff. I rate Moran higher, but he hasn't shown enough to be rushed back in at the risk of unsettling the side come finals. Griffin not even on the radar this year.

If Moran had Sellar's intensity then it'd be a no-brainer to bring Moran in. I commend Sellar for the way he goes about it, he seems to be getting the most out of his average ability.

Sellar has talent, and is not of average ability. The question is whether his talent and ability will develop.
