1.Why do the Power have a lack of people attending their game and please dont say its the weather because it was a lovely day today and it look liked only 10,000 but they are saying 21,00. Must be counting feet again.

I dont know why these so called port supporters dont get behind their club, they need the money, but no-one goes to their games. I dont understand the port "faithful"

Their a bit like some of the PAMFC supporters in the SANFL, when your winning flags their out in numbers then when its drying up they hybernate.

That maybe true but the AFL is killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

With home matches at Footy Park being telecast live on Fox and 30 mins delayed on free to air, and the fact you have to pay a min of about $30 a ticket, some people either can't afford to go every (second) week or couldn't be stuffed.

Port are at least trying something different with ticket pricing and kids in for free (I think) today, but I know that if I followed Port (or the Crows), I wouldn't be forking out $100 on tickets before food, etc to go every fortnight for a family of 5.

Money is tight for some (actually a lot of) people at the moment, but the AFL is blind to that fact and is on a suicide mission to maximise media rights revenue at the expense of grass roots fans.

No doubt Port's up and down season hasn't helped, but the Crows attendences are slightly down as well for an average below 40,000.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Is it a Crows or Power home game next ? There's at least 40 k regardless.

When they play Carlton soon they'll get 30+ for that game.

Plenty of my mates are coming over from Melb for that one. Big Carlton presence for sure.
Overall on the crowds, i'm sure the tickets aren't as exspensive as what dedja was saying and there is all sorts of promotions being offered atm. I think the Sunday Mail was doing something where you get cheaper tickets and the club were doing a three game ticket not that long ago with significant savings.
Also, how many members do Port have and how many of those memberships would include a season pass? Surely more then the numbers that are turning up.
I do know one thing that isn't helping is people like me who used to go to as many Power games as possible so I could barrack against them and stir up my Port supporting mates ;)

Today was my first AFL game for just under 2.5 years, since being away overseas. Obviously the result was pretty ordinary for Port, but at the end of the day Carlton were the best side and totally deserved to win.

On the crowd issue, I have to say that football aside, I really didn't enjoy my day today for one reason and that was the Port crowd. I never, ever thought I say Port had bad 'supporters' because I always thought the Alberton crowd was brilliant at getting behind their side. Not today.

Right from the outset even when Port got off to a decent start it began. "You're rubbish Kane". "Why are you kicking it there?". "You're too slow Chaplain". "You're too short Ebert"..........and on it went. ALL DAY. Barely 1 positive word spoken by a 'supporter'. It was embarrassing. The Carlton fans (who were brilliant and in huge numbers - I'd say about 30% of the total crowd) must have thought it was a complete circus.

I always thought you went to the football to cheer your team on and if circumstances required it - to sledge the OPPOSITION. Prior to my spell OS I'd held a Port membership and season ticket since their inception in the AFL and rarely if ever missed a home game, plus traveled to a fair share of interstate games. I honestly can't recall Port fans being so negative toward the players and being so embarrassing.

So to make my point, I actually think some people could be staying away because of the negativity and complete and utter stupidity of a large number of the numpties in Port's crowd. I thought it was a complete disgrace the way some of them behaved today and I can't help but think that the constant hounding and heckling by our own fans has to impact the players during the course of the game.

A LOT of people in the Port crowd should have a good hard look at themselves.

Sorry mate, I only thought about it when I got there. I'll be getting to a United game soon, so we'll tee one up.

At least your lot were supporting their own players as well as bagging studly.

I was at the game too with a carlton supporting mate and I agree, barely heard a good thing said about their players from their so called supporters.

There is no doubt that Sunday games are the reason for many of Ports poor home crowds. Somehow the canvassing the PAFC has done suggest it is the preferred time for Port fans, well not me.

I didnt go yesterday ( despite having a Season Ticket ) as Junior Boon finished his footy at 1:15. It would have been rush home, shower and change ( for him ) then off to the game,or, have a beer to celebrate/commiserate with the other parents on Season 2009 and go home relax in front of the TV and enjoy the drinks prices at Boons Bar which are very reasonable.

I detest coming home at 5:30 on a SUnday night after being to the footy, time to relax then not just start to wind down after a day out.

Sunday Footy - No good.

every week its something different.. The weather.. Or there is a show on somewhere or saturday games or sunday games.. How about there is no in between with port.. You either hate them or you love them.. And by the looks of it more people hate them.. If a club only has 20 odd thousand members how can anyone expect more than 30 thousand people to show up.. I dont no anyone who would go to a port game just to watch a game of footy who are not members.. The reality is they should not of called themselfs port and they might of had more members.. Imo..
